How about an andrew71 inspired track? I liked the idea of limiting myself to one instance of each instrument, which was the point of that track. |

I have all of them, but I like some more than others. The Modular was always my n.1, mainly because I have nothing else to compare to (1 to 1), and bcause I always dreamed of having a modular system (which I never could, of course). The second, mainly because I was always a fan of Oberheim, is the SEM V. The, I consider all the rest more or less equally, with the exception of tme Mini, mainly because it doesn't really add much to someone that already have the Modular, except the simplicity of the workflow. ---- Fernando (FMR) |

Is it just me, or does nearly every Arturia post inevitably lead to the same comments and complaints? I like SEM V quite a bit. ---- "Time makes fools of us all. Our only comfort is that greater shall come after us." Eric Temple Bell http://thetomorrowfile.bandcamp.com/ |

Yes, it's not just you MickGael and it doesn't seem to matter what the original question was. |

Of all those emulation for me the best is the sem. I've demoed all of them but when i run through sem i liked it immediately, the rest of them not so much. ---- GAS |

Pretty much. SEM is so far away from an actual SEM it's ridiculous. Not to mention Mini. Do all SEMs sound the same? If not, which one is the "actual" SEM? And the Mini. Gordon Reid tested it extensively, with spectrum analysis and so on, and concluded it was remarkably close to the original. Yet I keep reading comments like "it's no way like the original. Considering that the original suffered several revisions, and that the units may sound very different from each other, I wonder how people can say that. Besides, who cares? I lok at them as "real" instruments, and don't care that much about how close they are to the originals, as long as they sound good and bring something new to the table. And NO, they don't sound all the same. ---- Fernando (FMR) |

The Arturia SEM does pretty well here, but you can hear there is still room left for improvement. Even the OP-X suffers from slight plasticness. If the Arturia team still has access to the hardware CS80, they should bring it up to the SEM standard of modelling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_n2ctb40B8 fmr wrote: Besides, who cares? If it can't achieve the same sound as the claimed hardware source, its a failed emulation....period. ---- Intel Core2 Quad CPU + 4 GIG RAM |

Perhaps a good analogy would be with cars. The same model of car can be tweaked and tuned to suit its owner perfectly and if they ever drove another car of the same model, it might never be the same.
Analog circuitry by its very nature most likely has variations, and as pointed out, hardware revisions would change the circuitry, resulting in further variances. I've never owned any of the synths that Arturia emulate, nor would I ever be able to afford or house the collection, but I can own their emulations and they're good enough for me. Your milage may vary! I'd still like a bit more space to grab those virtual controls though Arturia, if you're listening! |

I think they can best emulate these vintage pictures which you can find on their adds. Instruments are pure joke (as emulation, as pure instruments some of them are even useful and musical). |

Exactly, and that is why I would never use an electric piano, because it's a failed emulation of an acoustic piano Joking aside - I really dig your track Andrew71. |

Pretty much. SEM is so far away from an actual SEM it's ridiculous. Not to mention Mini. Well, without frankly disagreeing the best would be to have ALSO an Arturia's emulations user's opinion ? As said in frensh : un autre son de cloche... Used them, then played real things. Arturia's "emulations" are a far cry. Your probably right but perhaps a bit unfair IMO... ...i used to have a minimoog model D during early eighties, it seems to me that the "minimoog original" is still a very decent emulation |

Interesting to see the CS-80v coming second but not getting much verbal praise here.
Between it and the SEM i'm kinda leaning towards it to be honest. Not sure why yet... I think maybe the SEM, is perhaps a little too rudimentary. |

This is perhaps the one that should be revised more. Of course, now that they achived so good results with the SEM, I would better see first an old dream of mine - an emulation of the Oberheim Matrix-12. ---- Fernando (FMR) |
