The Siel has been hanging around my studio for years so I thought it would be fun to make a very, very basic kontakt instrument from it. The Siel PX is a weird fuzzy, noisy Italian electric piano/bass keyboard. There are better electric pianos out there, but the sound the Siel makes is a bit different to the norm, maybe twist it up with some filter plugin or something. The original machine I have has a very clunky keyboard and works when it feels like it, so I made this little sample bank of it and Anders kindly made a lovely GUI for it. Downloaded it.
Messed around with it for a minute. Will screw around with it more when I don't have a headache. |

So now that I'm taking a break from listening to music releases and don't have a headache, I can properly give a mini-review of this.
As usual, Synthmagic has made another great Kontakt instrument, and I was quite surprised by how good it was for a free instrument. Its a strange sounding electric piano/bass synth, reminds me of listening to New Wave and Synth Pop from about 1983/4. It also reminds me of some kind of plucked instrument that I can't put my finger on. There isn't much on tap for parameter controls (just like the real thing). Turning on the Bass button changes from piano to bass synth, which sounds useable, though like the piano part, I'm not sure what. The effects on the main page are a simple chorus and tremolo, which add some extra interest to the instrument. The effects section is very nice, I especially like the reverb, which had a load of presets from simply giving the instrument depth to being a musical effect, capable of doing strange things to the sound. I have no idea where I would use it in my productions, but I'm sure I'll find a spot. Its worth a download just to hear it, but it might find a place in ambient, chill out, and maybe some techno producers arsenals. |

Thanks for the mini review Yes I think the Siel could be suited to ambient music and electronica as well as jazz and down tempo styles. Thanks everyone, Glad your liking the Siel. Cheers, Steve Update Siel download number was very high and link has now expired. Siel is no longer available. |
