Greetings.
I'm thinking about getting Studio One 2 Pro to accompany my Live 8 and I'd be interested in people's opinions on this DAW - it's a bit under my radar but the 32/64 bit thing seems good, as does VST/AU and Melodyne. I'm trying the demo but would also appreciate input. Mac users particularly welcome to comment but hey, PC people welcome as well. Cheers |

It's the best, really. An overlooked feature is the exchange server. There is loads of free samples on there with a very high quality.
Two things you should know: video editing seems to work only in 32 bit at this time. There is no staff view. I've tried some daws, bought two. For me: Studio One > Samplitude > Sonar X1 ---- Hello. Is it you I'm looking for? |

LIve 8 is still my main DAW but Studio One has been the only linear DAW that's really clicked with me (tried Reaper, Logic, Cubase).
It's (mostly, the difference between Audio and Plug-in Instruments and how they relate to the Console takes a bit of getting used to) incredibly intuitive and easy on the CPU. Regular updates (there's one coming in August) and the devs do listen/watch the forum. I'd recommend S1 over these other brands for my cat. |

I like it for it's streamline and easy workflow.
Gets better with each update. |

good for VSTi/VST hosting. not that good if you have hardware instruments in your setup. anyway i'm using it more and more often giving up with cubase. |

Thanx for the replies so far.
Video only works in 32 bit mode eh? Is this or bug or just not a fully implemented feature? I'm getting on OK with it so far (don't know what the cosole is yet as I'm trying to do it without the manual) and I still can't get more than one plug-in to show at a time (I know, I could and probably will RTFM) 2 slightly worrying things - I just had a crash on it after a few hours open (good thing was it had autosaved) and when I have DDMF IIEQPro on a track, the 'plug-in FX floating window thing, the one where I can only get one plug-in to show at a time) went very weird, couldn't move its window around and then it kind of reappeared somewhere else on the GUI. Not sure if this is a S1 thing or a DDMF thing, works fine in Live. Gonna keep playing |

I've got 1 hardware instrument, a Nord Wave, that I've only tried so far as a MIDI controller - what's the problem with hardware or does it just apply if you have more than one piece? Cheers |

Just wanted to share the following threads on Studio One. I followed these keenly to know more about it. It has some interesting facts which may help you taking an informed decision. If you have already gone through these then by all means please ignore this post.

satYatunes - wow, really helpful thanks! Im browsing those threads now:
So, the 32/64 is a nice bit of impossible to understand marketing and if I want to use 32 bit plugs running in 64 bit I need to bridge. That's cheeky. hivkorn - the only reason I need video is to score for friend's films, so no editing, just running a vid and scoring music for it. Although apparently that's only in 32 bit mode anyway? |

No crash so far, months of use. Dreaming workflow with multiediting Pianoroll done the right way.
I don't use hardware anymore, so I can't validate. I miss 128th grid and the free pan/drag in the Pianoroll to move around freely for quick writing. Live Ctrl+Alt does it, here nothing yet.... You can have as many plugins open at the same time as you need by selecting the thumb pin on the right upper corner. That keeps the plugin open but you can use the same plugin window and choose to see another plugin from the upper tabs also. Great piece of software with open future and it's only v2!!! ---- MuLab 4, Studio One v2. In that order. |

As far as I know the video is 32-bit only on Windows...it should work in 64-bit on Mac. This is because S1 uses Quicktime for movie playback and Apple haven't released 64-bit versions for Windows... A recent post by a Presonus staff member suggests the 32-bit Windows video restriction will be rectified soon... |

I don't need to export vid, i just need to make music to accompany a vid and then send the music to the filmmaker - so I'm alright then? |
