Hi everyone,
I was really encouraged by the nice response from my tambourine pack, so I decided to release another freebie. This is a sample pack of a vintage typewriter. It can be used for sound fx, experimental music and anything else under the sun.
It contains clicks, dings, ratchet sounds and other mechanical type noises and can make some rather interesting rhythmic patterns. The samples are dry, 16 bit .wav format.
It does not contain velocity layers because the machine does not have much dynamic range during operation. I have included a ShortCircuit mapping set up for some press and release sounds. Pressing a key on the keyboard responds like a typewriter key.
The download and more info is located here: http://subtersonic.weebly.com/1/post/20 ... -2012.html

A demo of the sounds is located here: http://soundcloud.com/subtersonic/typewriter-demo

Update 2: sopulurn has kreated a Kontakt 5 mapping for the Brother Typewriter and has kindly agreed to share it with us. You can find it here: http://subtersonic.weebly.com/1/post/20 ... -2012.html

Thank you! :-) I'm not sure if I will find a concrete use for it but it's fun to fool around with anyway.
The more I hang around at KVR the less music I make.

That demo track is so cool :) I am sure these sounds could be used for some experimental rhythms :)
Or maybe to replicate the intro from the prodigy :)

Thanks!

These sounds I've heard a lot in my childhood...

During the typewriting training in my school everything sounded like gun salvos of a big army...

This is awesome again! Thank you very much! :)
The demo reminds me a bit of Aphex Twins track "Nannou": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaXqU7hVVhI
He obviously sampled a music box but your demo reminds me of it nontheless :)

Thanks again!
Great work again! :tu:

Cheers

It is the funniest thing I've read in a while, not sure if it was intended

I will use it well. Thanks. I was always believe it or not looking for a typewriter sample. Maybe I should make my own with my Brother typewriter. Will let you know if I ever get around to doing that.

Wow, you're right, it reminded me of it too. That video was pretty amazing.

You're welcome everyone, I'm happy to provide it. I'd love to hear some experiments done with it.

Filmmaker Mark Freeman of SDSU http://www.markfreemanfilms.org has used the typewriter samples in a neat short video. The link is in the original post.

hey man, wanted to thank you for these samples, and let you know i made a Kontakt instrument for myself of them. with your permission (and your name on the patch of course) i could share it here for those who might have use for it.

i mapped the press and release samples accordingly as in your SC mapping, plus the keys have a second "velocity layer" when you hit them harder that i made using the pressing sound from the "press+release" samples. there's also the rest of the sounds mapped over C4, including the three loops that play in whatever tempo has been set in the host.

had fun doing it, and learned a couple of things about programming sounds in Kontakt :)
