Latest News: MuTools updates MuLab and MUX VST to 5.1.5

I have a few observations and questions since spending some time with MuLab here lately. Mostly great results so far and I'm relieved I don't have to buy an upgrade, or switch to "whatever DAW" I was considering so here goes...
Just discovered the loop parameters in the sequence. This is really slick for drums! I must have missed that along the way. Great for making drum tracks quickly. Wow! I was trying to copy and paste a large section of sequences on multiple tracks to build up a song and I set the cursor (ahead) and attempted to paste... Hmmm doesn't seem to work that way? How do I do this other than drag copy??? I asked this before, but Is there any way to show the automation tracks with a keyboard shortcut? Or all tracks... that would be nice? Looked under shortcuts and couldn't find anything? Selecting all notes in the editor, would be nice to be able to move with the keyboard arrow keys. I always try to do this and it never works in most DAWs. Great possibility to do this? Apparently the focus of development is on 64bit, multi-core and the VST etc. Which being on a Mac C2 duo machine, has little to do with me, and as a MuLab owner the VST is well... but most things are working really well for me anyway. I'm more interested in interface tweaks and usability stuff in MuLab itself. Onward. |

I'd also like to know if there's another way too |

I'm on Win7 and tried copy/paste.
- select a bunch of sequences - copy (CNTRL-C on Win) - move the cursor to where i want to have the copies - paste (CNTRL-V) Works fine. Another tip: have you used the 'ghost' copies already? These copies are linked and if you cange something in one sequence the other will change as well. Use CNTRL-SHIFT drag for this (on Win, no idea on a OSX) |

Not tried ghost copy. So if i do a normal copy/paste its creating a seperately editable block? |

Pasting parts and events happens at the 'focused position', that is the position where you last clicked the mouse or pressed a key, eg a 'Paste' shortcut key. |

If by normal copy/paste you mean the way you copy and paste in other Windows programs, then the copies are linked to the original and there is no separate editing.
Actually, I think copies should always stay linked to the original within the same song, and separating should of course be available, but only be temporary. Sometimes you want to change something separately, but after that you want to change something else for all of them again, etc. Maybe that is already possible and I just have not discovered how to do that I guess I will set up all the standard Windows shortcuts. For instance selecting individual parts with Ctrl + click, or redoing with Ctrl + Y. By the way, pressing Ctrl + Shift + Alt at the same time while clicking and dragging with the mouse is not easy for a left-handed person such as myself |

Ok, now I'm confused! Andreas says I'm right and fluffy says I'm wrong?
Let me be clearer. If I RightClick/Copy and Paste a block does remain 'linked' to the original? ie any edits in one affect the other(s). Is it the same with Ctrl/Copy and Paste? I'd like to know exactly how to do BOTH as I've often had this problem in Muzys but didn't know if or how you could create seperate copies of the original, allowing you to edit one copy without affecting the other(s). Thanks |

Seems like they are still linked. You can see a loop symbol in the upper left-hand corners of both original and copy. When you right-click the copy and make it unique, the symbol disappears and numbers are added instead to both. Now you can edit them separately.
Here the different shortcuts and ways are described: http://www.mutools.com/mulab/docs/composer.html Last edited by fluffy_little_something on Tue Jul 24, 2012 8:22 am; edited 1 time in total |

Copy-paste sequence part will create a new shared sequence part.
Via drag-drop you have the choice: [Ctrl] = create new unique sequence part. [Shift]+[Ctrl] = create new shared sequence part. Also see http://www.mutools.com/mulab/docs/composer.html |

Ah so that's what that menu item 'Make unique' is for! Thanks for the help all |

Couple new things...
1. Copy and paste does seem to work but it seems I have to manually select a spot on the screen to get the tracks to end up in their same location? As they end up below or above their "existing" locations otherwise. Not exactly what I'd call expected behavior? 2. Is there any way to set up a default location(s) when adding presets or sequences... seems like it should remember the "last" location? As I am loading saved drum sequences repeatedly I have to go and page through 5 locations even though I have saved "favorites." Very tedious and time consuming... 3. I tried to enter text into a plugin to authorize it in MuLab and it won't let me type text in the fields. Is that a plgin issue or a MuLab issue? As I usually authorize plugs downloaded in the DAW... I have had this problem before with some companies plugins so may not be a MuLab issue? Thanks! |

I see there is a little inconsistency towards the note editor. Added a note on the wishlist. Quote: 2. When browsing for a sequence the last folder si memorized. So i don't see what you mean. Can you please elaborate. Quote: 3. I would call it an OS issue. Anyway, i got a note on the wishlist about this. But i'm afraid it's not a short term item, to be honnest. |

If I go to load a sequence, I keep getting the same location... Not where I would want to start. If I navigate to the correct location, when I close the window it goes right back to the weird location I don't want? Not sure where the heck that location cam from??? I've added favorites, but they have to be manually selected??? |

Then it appears I need another program just to install some plugins. I've been proceeding like I would use MuLab only, it does seem that the Mac version has some idiosyncrasies not in the PC version... I can still use it but maybe I need to consider another "lite" host to use in addition to MuLab. I was considering loading Snow Lion... Er, would that be a bad idea? Ha! |
