Hello,

I just posted a question/poll on my Facebook page about what kind of Pro Audio Software people are most interested in , or waiting for , or wish to be realised. I think it is an interesting question/theme to learn/know about the future of Pro Audio Software and about the direction in wich things are going to evolve.

Feel free to join this poll here or at http://www.facebook.com/XhunAudio if you want.

PS: If you think I missed a poll option let me know...

New or different types of synthesis - additive, granular or other types that don't even have a name yet.

I don't think anyone needs yet another virtual analog. One of the other 25,000 plug-ins available should do the job.

all of the above actually, as long as it is good. people can argue that we have too many classic VA's, then synths like Diva and Oxium come along and remind us why we can never have too many. And YES XAMIDO, more la2a and 1176 clones please if only to infuriate and wind people up like poor Xamido here

I agree with you xamido, when you say there's an overload of 'Virtual Analogue' softwares in the pro audio market, but I think it is due to the HUGE attention by the users for this kind of efforts (analogue electronic emulation). It seems to be something with a continuously growing demand by users...

Sure, once stuff is fine made, everything is well accepted :)

But with this Poll I would ask 'For what kind of effort you feel the need today or in a near future' or 'what do you expect from a near future for the Pro Audio world/releases'...

I am the first one to choose the last option I think.

Please no more ___ clone. I thought of going with the third one but meh. If we have enough stability to play things live, it will make our lives so much easier.

In the end, I think we all care about self-correcting monitors, cheap portable power supplies, and foldable fully weighted keyboards Very Happy Really, that's what our generation of music making lacks. We have enough minimoogs, or ones that sound close to it or not really but we pretend to, thank you.

Unfortunately there's no way to insert an additional poll option once the thread has started. When I created this thread the last poll option has been cutted out. In my Facebook poll there's another vote option :

Low cost / Easy to use Software ( Apps-style stuff )

In this period "Casual Pro Software" is growing in importance due to its low cost and ease of use. So I will include it here as an 'out of the contest' vote/option.

So I think another good question is (for all the cases in wich this kind of choise is possible to make):

it is better to have several, simple, low cost products OR one complex and omni-comprehensive (and more expensive) software?

The latter. People who use "Casual Pro" software cannot even come close to technicality of producing, so I find it quite limited. Current prices are fine. But hardware... that would be different.

Yes, with my "Casual Pro Software" strange neologism :) I was referring to its 'model of distribution/purchase', not to the 'limitations for professional use in productions'.

I just asked it because in these days it seems many people prefers a 'quick to use, quick to purchase, low cost' software instead of more elaborate, evolute (and expensive) softwares.

But in both cases softs are 'ready for professional use in productions'.

well thought over, deeply functional synths of whatever synthesis type... finally again... the devs should rather invest time into well designed synths and raise the price, i'd gladly pay for such a software, rather than having to deal with all that "unfonisched" stuff that floods the market since quite some time...

Xhun, you need to focus on perfecting a version 2.0 of the Guitar and getting away from Synthedit so you can port to x64 Native.

Im interested in digital software, or software that isnt modeled off of anything. Digital electronic music is the way of the future, so you might as well embrace it, that way we might get some new classics!

Hi soundnaut,

"Digital electronic music" is a little bit *generic* approach to synthesis :)

Seriously, I agree, in music all possibilities are good possibilities. I personally love and appreciate any kind of product and technology, from Romplers to Acoustic Systems Simulations.

In a general way, if it blows your mind it is a good choise. And that's why existing instruments emulation is much more diffused compared to post-avant-garde gear (you were referring to). Because (as I read time ago in a publication of the 90's) unlike real instruments, 'pure' artifical synthesis system tend to sound artificial. Almost always emotions come from imperfections (typical of real instruments), and this is why *generally* a full Orchestra Strings Section is more expressive than an FM Synth Pad. And why usually people prefer digital simulations of existing instruments.
