I have a big problem with the new 2.5.3 version of Zebra. In all my existing Cubase (v6.0.7) projects, Zebra doesn't emmit any sound. The instances and their settings are loaded and the MIDI LED also flickers, but there's no sound. Even reloading the instance or creating a complete new instrument track doesn't help.
Then I tried a ZebraHZ instance in these projects. While the first works, every further instance is silent, too. Help

Edit: It seems that in small projects (where I just sketched some little ideas) everything works fine.

wow.

We've been looking for this in Diva VST, but if it happens in Zebra then... hmmm...

Do you use Cubase 64 bit on Windows?

Does any of the projects have only Zebra and Cubase' built-in plugins?

We're interested in a project file that helps us reproduce this issue. So far we only got project files that also use plugins we don't have, and none of these exhibits this issue on our systems.

When you say any further ZebraHZ is silent, do these projects ahve other plugins?

Thanks,

Hi Urs,

thanks for your fast answer!

Yes.

No, but those small sketch projects where Zebra works do also have plug-ins of other devs.

Yes.

A guess in the blue:
I already had two plug-ins of two different devs that didn't work properly any more, as soon as a Cubase project exceeded a certain memory size. Although these both cases were related to GUI problems, maybe it's something similar here as well. (But as said, it's just a guess in the blue, since I have no clue of coding. Wink )

Edit: Just made the test I also did with these other two plug-ins and it behaves quite similar. I opened an empty project boosted it's memory footprint with memory heavy plugs like Omnisphere, opened a Zebra instance which had sound, opened a second one which remained silent (as every further one).

Can you open these projects in the 32 bit version?

Hardly, since they're too RAM heavy. I could 'cheat' with jBridge, of course, but that could disguise the bug.

(Have you seen the edit of my last post? You posted right after I made it.)

Okay...

A memory issue seems to make sense to us, but we can't make it out without further testing.

Clemens suggests to do a binary search, i.e. find the newest revision that doesn't exhibit the behaviour and see what we did inbetween. If you send me an email, I'd like to set you up with a Zebra from January. If that works then we can narrow it down to half a year, and maybe do a build with the state of April etc.

Would you be into that?

I'm still getting this all the time w/ Diva. I'll send a Logic Session next time it happens, though to be honest, and this is heresy, I realize, but I've stopped using Diva pretty much until there's a fix. However, next time it happens, I shall send the session. Count on it.

Only with Diva for me. Run Zebra all the time/no problem. Logic (latest) OSX 10.7.4.

We've mostly narrowed it down to the new MIDI queue that uses an external performance library.

This queue was used in Diva 1.1 and the current Zebra that comes with The Dark Zebra installer.

We'll fix these issues and hopefully release updates early next week Smile

Strange - I'm not seeing this behaviour so far in Diva or HZ projects I've saved in Logic (tried switching to 64 bit too)

I also got this bug in nuendo 5.5 (windows, 64 bit). it seems that dark zebras added to an already "full" project will be most likely to stop making sound. And sometimes adding a new zebra to for example a project with a full orchestra loaded, then zebra might crash Nuendo completely..
what an awesome synth! so I am very happy you are working on a fix.
