Apple to release 2012 iMacs with Ivy Bridge in Sept/Oct?
I have been waiting for months now to replace my 2008 iMac with a new Ivy Bridge model because I don't want to pay 2012 money for 2011 tech. I have been following all the news/rumors on the web & all signs are pointing to a late September early October release. Rumored to include faster Ivy Bridge processors, USB 3 & a new anti-glare screen. Also rumored to be dumping the super drive to make it thinner. This is agony waiting for Apple to officially announce it. |

Yah they'll come.. don't worry man, this is it...
I love the idea of an AG screen but i'd hate to not have a dvd drive in an imac. USB3 will be fantastic to complement thunderbolt. these will be true beasts with amazing power. ---- Please call me Theo. |

not to put a dammper on things but Ivy is no faster than sandy.. they idea of die shrink is to make the chip run cooler which did not happen this go round..
generally with the "cooler" comse a slightly higher processor. didnt see that either.. sandy 2700 Ivy 3770 both 3.5Ghz both benchmark the same.. Scott ADK |

Scott ADK I just went ahead and bought a used 3.1 Ghz 4 core imac for about 25% of new price. And am now working much more productively with my projects. I just could not see waiting 2 or 3 months for a little performance increase. Plus having to pay top dollar for the snappy new design. I think in 18-28 months I might upgrade to a Haswell CPU iMac if the performance is improved by say 50% over the present models. Also if they are going to go much higher res with the screen there's going to be issues with heat and underpowered Graphics cards.. Interesting times though... I think it is a good idea to wait a bit and get USB 3.0 with the new models. Thunderbolt is still too expensive, and getting a USB 3 SSD drive is something worth considering. |

The USB 3 point is true enough, but for situation I have a bunch of firewire enclosures and audio interfaces now. Plus my external controllers all use USB 2, so I can take the hit on one expensive thunderbolt SSD/Sata enclosure when I get a little extra room in my budget.
