I consider myself good at programming drums, but boy do I struggle programming convincing tambourines and shakers.
Best I can do is use battery 3's modulation to add pitch randomness and link vel>decay time, etc. It's okay, but still sounds fake. I need a better solution... These are the best I found so far: Noisefirm - Complete Shaker & Tambourine Nine Volt Audio - Shimmer & Shake Both seem fantastic in their own right. The noise firm one has way more variation with round robins and velocity layers, etc, and the samples all have the same vibe. Whereas, the (older) shimmer and shake doesn't have info on variation/round robin, but the different instruments have different vibes. I'm not even sure if these attributes are good or bad, I just can spot the difference Kinda leaning towards noise firm because of the price, but I still find the shimmer and shake sounds appealing. Any help here? What's your solution/product of choice for convincing shakers and shizzle? |

Tambourines and shakers aren't exactly the most expensive instruments in the world. Why not just buy the real thing and play it in? You can make your own loops, quantize an imperfect performance, etc... ---- Incomplete list of my gear: Microsoft Windows XP |

They're inexpensive. Have you considered just buying real ones? |

In considering the cost, we must pay attention to the recording environment. |

I think the Waves Factory tambourines is good enough for most things. I'll use the ones in VSL Percussion usually, but the WF has come in handy being slightly different eg., "Sticks_Shake_Rolls.nki". |
