I purchased very little last year at all - since any place that carries CDs in this burb have such crap selections (and inflated prices), the joy of browsing the bins is long gone.
And with my el cheapo streaming service, I do not really need to buy anything - except the things they don't have, which pisses me off when I discover their absence, but if I don't know of their glaring omissions I don't care. |

Easy answer for me: Delerium's Music Box Opera.
I've been a fan of everything Leeb/Fulber for decades, and this one is up there with their best IMO, but I'm probably in the minority on that opinion. Most of the reviews and and comments by long-time fans that I've seen have complained about how commercial/mainstream it sounds, but I think it's just a fantastic, well-rounded album that is very well produced. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEhhMjoAmCI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlNVJ4tzUSY |

2012 is probably the first year in many that I didn't buy anything new. There's usually something every year I want to get but nothing stood out for me last year. |

The album 'Silver Moon' by this band 'Donkey Boy' from Norway came out last year, it's the best pop album I've ever heard, here's a couple of tracks... They've got this 80's gimmick going on... but they're still cool as... to me anyway http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5qQezb6kVA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcN6dm3a1Q0 |

I like the new Memory Tapes but I pretty much listen to Throbbing Gristle exclusively these days. They kick the crap out of pretty much every band for the last 30 years. When people say there's no good music anymore I think they mean authentic music. Everything out now is derived from something done 20 times before. I kinda feel bad for the young artists nowadays... They don't even need to have an imagination because their brains are just pummeled with so much information. Most just find a happy corner to go sit in and pretend.
This has been going on for a long time. I mean, people actually used to listen to Pavement and think they were impressive |

Off the top of my head:
RUSH - Clockwork Angels I did get the new Mountain Goats album too, but I haven't even had a chance to listen to it. It'll probably be on my list going by previous albums. Was that last year or this year? I was going to mention ULVER - Wars of the Roses until I realised it was released in 2011. |

I guess the computer game is THE art form of our times. FLA's soundtrack for "Airmech" (2012). And I guess they are characters in the game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Sw92TKaJlA |
