Casio Phase Distortion sounds in Zebra

I've been exploring the sounds of the phase distortion OSC effects in Zebra since I came across this guy's Casio CZ-5000 based music:

I love these sounds! It's a unique timbre to my ears, 80s-ish, digital but warm and round.
Urs posted some sounds a while back in another thread - wondering if anyone else has taken it further and has any pointers on getting these kinds of lovely sounds? I did create one nice warm-ish burbling patch but had to cheat with the filter OSC effect a bit after the phase dist to tone down the high end.

I'm sure I will! When I took a second look at the beta recently I realized it had what I was asking for in ACE feature requests - more multiples, more possibilities for cross-modulation of simple waves. I'll have to put off learning it until the release though - still working on ACE and Zebra, and if I try to learn one more complex synth at the same time my head will asplode.

sorry for the late reply im trying to get the PD synthesis method in Zebra aswell, if you don't want to learn another synth and you have it, FM8 kind of does pd synthesis, scince fm is very similar its just the phase that makes the tone instead of modulating sinewaves etc, check out the tx waves in fm8 they'll point you in the right direction

There's a PD effect for the oscillators. It works pretty well, but needs technical insight into how PD works.
However, I posted the basic waveforms in our PatchLib:
search "Zebra² goes CZ" on http://www.u-he.com/PatchLib/zebra.html

Beautiful sounds. There's something very satisfying about the "filter" closing in non-resonant PD sounds. There's a sort of feint spectral combing around the cutoff point that you don't usually get in actual filters. Gives it a bit of a "chompy" bite. And the sounds often seem (to me at least) to be in a sort of superposition of being warm and cold at the same time. So perfect for squarewave fifth pads (a la "soundtrack" presets).

I would love that, but unfortunately I don't really know/am familiar that much with PD or Casio CZ series... so... if someone has good pointers (feedback, audio and video examples and info), get in touch and I can give it a try.V0RT3X wrote:I hope someone makes a Casio CZ bank for Bazille.

Thanks so much Urs! I was confident that Zebra 2 could take on phase distortion, but wasn't sure how to go about it! Very helpful, THANKS AGAIN!Urs wrote:There's a PD effect for the oscillators. It works pretty well, but needs technical insight into how PD works.
