I concur, chasing marketing here is a waste of time and money. For instance that last list has three compressors I know from, and they really sound great used appropriately.

I think there's some profound truth in this statement. Modern Plugin comps have so much more flexibility than the older comps some of them are emulating. For instance, now that I'm used to comps like Jscompshaper it's hard to go back to ones that offer less control and there's a lot to be said for not falling for all the marketing hype and the shiny interfaces. Sorry that it's not an answer to your query OP!Shy wrote:Forget the nonsensical hardware references.

MODELS:
VCA (classic DBX style):
VCA is inspired by the classic DBX design. solid state feed forward versatile compression.
FET (1176 style):
emulation of the character of very fast vintage FET units, it's a feedback compressor and can be very aggressive.
OPTO (LA2A, LA3A style):
inspired by a famous tube limiter, its feed forward and has a smooth response.
"Compressors are not modeled after any specific hardware, it's inspired by the logic with the classic were made and tweaked during my day to day job to make them sound as good as i could."

It`s not a bug... it`s a feature!

No way, dude! It has to be a photorealistic copy of the original with tube-tech's logo on it. That way it sounds warmer and better.jancivil wrote:I concur, chasing marketing here is a waste of time and money. Stillwell products are top notch!
http://www.stillwellaudio.com/
So, are these Stillwell Beta links skirting the whole buying process? If you're just using them as a trial why not use the non-beta demo products to decide if they work for you and should be paid for?

They are 64bit beta but they are there for years. Actually they are not beta any more.

Punch Evolved : Budget 1176 emulator, kind of under the radar but Ive used the demo for a while now and still find myself using it. I have TRacks as well but this one is less in your face and dials in really easily, great GUI too.

Sknote stripbus has a 1176, LA2A and a SSL4K emulation and it won't break the bank. They sound great too and have lots of features.

Anything?
Thanks
StripBUS includes very deep emulations of both the La2a and the 1176
( the package also includes a whole lot more).
It's just 30$, sounds great, the developer is super nice and updates are free and a new one is even coming soon.
"Preamps have literally one job: when you turn up the gain, it gets louder." Jamcat, talking about presmp-emulation plugins.
