best way to record live playing with fx and everything live not needing to render.
There are vst recorders as I recall and there are daws that can operate inside another daw via rewire and as vst,
Which option & products make the most sense and why?
recording capable vst

Hmmm... three option that I've used in te past are:
- Silverspike TapeIt! 2 VST plugin. Insert it on the master bus and it records everything that passes through it.
- Rewire REAPER into my live host (brainspawn forte)
- Use an audio piping VST to get audio from one program into another. In my case use SolidSoundStudios AuxBusFaders. Insert a sending instance in forte and a receiving instance in REAPER.

On Windows Edison from Imageline is my favourite solution - on Mac the options are much more limited, no dedicated recorder plugins but some subhosts that have record modules like Bidule. If you have Guitar Rig it has two tapedecks that you can just load without any other modules to record audio input.
