reference track?

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

Hey guys. I've never really used a reference track seriously for mixing but I'm curious to give it a shot. I'm not quite sure where to even start.

I'm trying to refine the mix on this:

Could someone point me to a song with a "good mix" that would be appropriate for me to emulate?

Thanks!

You have not bought any CDs that you think sound stunning?

I put together 90 seconds each from about 10 tracks from different artists that I like regarding bass, really loud, overall smooth feel to it.

So it could be that bass of one track that you want, and high end or ambience from another.

And I made a single track out of these, setting markers at each song so I quickly can jump around - like the numpad plus and minus for next/previous marker.

Anyway, that's how I use it.

Forget about mp3's if you really want something to compare to.

Brilliant strategy! I will definitely give that a shot.

Thank you for sharing that.
