might be worth checking if your patches work in 7
one or two of mine not working
though i haven't yet looked at why
if you upgrade you still have 6

If you use third-party externals, new versions usually break compatibility (happened several times in the past).

Bit unclear what to do as a M4L owner - can I upgrade M4L to version 7?

only if you buy a full version of Max at the moment.

... nothing seems to have been said about M4L being upgraded, though if you have Max7 you can use it in Live9, as its compatible. Ive so far not had any problem using Max7 in Live.

but it is a bit confusing what the plan is.

I haven't downloaded 7 yet, I don't want to screw up my 6 installation, I guess I will give it a shot on one of my lesser used machines. What's the deal with the new copy protection, after moving my max to ilok, I don't really want to give up begin able to run max on any machine that I have?

I'm student and it's a great opportunity to test Max 7 for a year for 59 dollar,
It's a great price

OK so if you install the Max 7 demo it can run alongside Max 6 - but which version gets used in M4L and if it uses Max 7 does it run in demo mode in M4L too? (because you install the Max 6 demo for M4L to work in the first place but as M4L it runs as a full version)

Well, on a very quick test on Win7, x64 versions, after pointing Live9 at Max7, it will load and use M4L devices okay. And I could open, edit, modify and save an M4L device from Max7. However my modified version wouldnt load back into Live.

Okay, following up from that, if I try creating a new Max Audio Effect under Max7, then at the Save stage it refuses, insisting that it requires Max7 to be authorised.

ok, Ive a full version of Max 7, so thought id test.
I created a small max audio effect using max 7, runs fine in Live 9.
I then switched live back to max 6, still worked,

but in the max window you get the following warning :)
You are opening a patcher or device created with Max 7 in an older
version of the software (6.1.9). It's possible that everything
will work just fine, but please be aware that some functionality
may not be backward-compatible. The newest version of the software
is available from http://www.cycling74.com/
it appears at the moment if you don't use any of the newer objects you will probably be fine,
but as i said before, I guess at some point ableton/cycling74 will release a newer version,
so M4L users can use the newer functionality.

that or, they are expecting everyone to buy Max, which i think would be a mistake.
