“Stratosphere is the best guitar library I’ve ever used for leads. The interface is intuitive and quick—customization is a breeze. Superb.” - Bill Evans, Executive Producer/Engineer, Flying Colors (Steve Morse, Dave LaRue, Mike Portnoy, Casey McPherson)

“What a BADASS instrument! It sounds terrific. The GUI is intuitive and everything is really clear.” - Pieter Schlosser, Composer (additional music for Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, The Sims 3, Friday the 13th, Desperate Housewives)

"My friends all think I'm joking when I tell them the guitar on my songs were played by me on a keyboard. The new Orange Tree Samples Evolution Electric Guitar - Stratosphere is simply amazing. Pitch bends, vibrato, and strumming are a breeze.” - Robert Williams, Drummer (Captain Beefheart, Hugh Cornwell)

When we introduced our line of guitar sample libraries in 2008, it represented a stunning leap forward in sampled guitar realism. Today, you’ll find the Evolution line of guitars and basses in final productions of numerous movie and television scores, trailers, games, even pop hits. Evolution Electric Guitar - Stratosphere represents the fifth generation of the Evolution guitar engine and incorporates refinements that provide unparalleled realism and more intuitive play.

For example, Stratosphere has an intuitive, powerful strumming pattern editor. We felt it was important to make something that represents strumming better than the traditionally-used step sequencer approach, so we came up with a more powerful system that’s fast and easy to use. It gives you control over which strings get strummed, the direction of the strum, and the speed of the strum. Plus, you can use many articulations within a single strum pattern, and even incorporate special effects like string slaps as part of the pattern.

Next, all the factory presets are available directly inside Stratosphere’s interface, meaning that you can see the preset name at all times as well as use convenient arrow buttons to scroll through the included collection of factory guitar tones and strumming patterns.

Evolution Electric Guitar - Stratosphere comes with a robust guitar effects engine, including a vast collection of over $8,000 of modeled guitar pedals. Additionally, you have selectable guitar cab sizes with several options for microphones and mic placement. All together, you have a comprehensive guitar effects suite at your fingertips without external guitar effect processors necessary to get amazing-sounding tones.

But don’t just take our word for it, let your ears decide.

Key features:
  • Multitracking up to quadruple tracking.
  • Adjustable pick position using our proprietary physical modeling technology.
  • Various vibrato styles, from classic vibrato to rock and metal vibrato with adjustable depth/speed. Vibrato can be assigned to MIDI CCs or aftertouch.
  • Powerful mapping system that lets you set how you want to trigger articulations, using conditions such as velocity ranges, MIDI CCs, latching and non-latching keyswitches, and more.
  • Built-in strum pattern editor for authentic guitar strumming.
Sampling specifications:
  • Over 10,000 samples, recorded in 24-bit, 48khz.
  • Articulations such as sustains, half palm mutes, full palm mutes, mutes, squeals, tapping, natural harmonics, plus special effects such as chugs, scratches, string slaps, and much more. The articulations amount to 144 unique samples per note, although because each string was sampled individually, in certain cases there are many more based on your ability to play the same note on different strings.
  • MIDI articulations for instant upward/downward grace notes, buzz trills, whole-step slides, whole-step hammer-ons, slides (velocity-based and tempo-synced), octaves, and powerchords.
  • Legato samples for slides, hammer-ons, and pull-offs.
  • The articulations have 3 dynamics, 2 pick directions (when applicable), and 2x round-robin.
  • Modeled pickup selection for bridge, bridge + middle, middle, middle + neck, and neck pickups.

Great job...about to grab it. Do you have an ETA on our other engines being updated?

Post

Right now I'm aiming for 6-8 weeks for EEG Strawberry and EAG Steel Strings to get updated to the new engine (which will be a free update). Fortunately the scripting is set up in a way that makes it really easy to update, adding different articulations, etc. The thing that's still up in the air is if we'll do additional processing/tuning of the samples or just use the samples as-is.

Stratosphere sounds amazing Greg, I'll be picking that up 100%.

Really looking forward to the acoustic on the same engine. It's all about the authenticity and ease of use with the strumming engine for me.

Hi Greg,

I just watched all the YouTube videos to get a feel before I buy. One question - one thing I love about the last versions of Strawberry and Steel Strings is the ability to do custom alternate tunings (via "tuning" each string). In the videos it appears you can only select a few preset alternate tunings (on the Settings page). Is there a way in the new engine to do custom alternate tunings by string?

Thanks.

That's correct--right now you have a bunch of common alternate tunings as presets and cannot create your own custom alternate tuning. That being said, it really wouldn't be difficult to add that functionality. One idea is to have a "custom tuning" as one of the options. When that's selected, it opens 6 additional controls to set the tuning per string. Right now I'm gathering ideas for a small update to release while I'm working on updating EEG Strawberry and EAG Steel Strings to the new engine.

Just as a side note, are you wondering because there are specific alternate tunings you'd like to use, or just to make sure you have that flexibility in case you need it?

Greg - that would be fantastic if you would consider adding that in for the update.

The tunings I use the most are DADGAD tuned down a 1/2 step, and also tuned down a whole step, but also other variations on Open Sus tunings, mostly on the high strings. But at the end of the day, I used quite a bit of experimentation with the functionality in the last versions of EEG/EAG, and really just liked the flexibility.

Thanks.

The scrips have a verry big bug problem ! I can't automize the grab menu of the perfences. It's verry important to make kontakt midi cc automation for pickup selector, strings up/down and the other important options...... Can you make up and share update, becouse i can understant in one project without automation how can will be...............

Please update the script. We want to automate all perfences with MIDI CC
Best regards i love this fender is verry real

Not being able to automate dropdown menus is a limitation in Kontakt itself. However, I'm releasing a small update for this library shortly, which will change the menus into sliders so that they can be automated. :)

Greg,

I was wondering how tough this program is on a PC? I have your steel strings and it's fine but I was thinking that this may be more intensive and has me worried how well it will perform.

I have an i7 with 32gb ram but it is a few years old and I am weary that some new software may see it starting to peak when used for new material.

Hello !
These days, I analyzed the product. This is verry exclusive product and I recommend it to anyone.
If you allow , I would like to propose a few new things!

1. In the original version ( not update ) in my library or the script maybe, i don't know.. i don't hear
the lowest Power Chords sound. From low E to low G.
2. Can you make up in setup menu slide preferences for slide time, slide noise. Because the slide is synced to tempo host projects, but only Fourteen and Eighteen times. Maybe Sixteen time is good for fast slide, or just slide time from 0 % to 100 %. Custom choise slide time.
3. One more think. I have a several guitar product ( bass and guitar ) Some have recorded real vibrato with fingers, because i hear the fret noise from fingers in the fret when we grab up and down the string for make vibrato. Your product don't have this fret sound, and it's not real.
I make clip demo for my bass from Scarbee Native Instruments, They have such a sound. When you watched the clip, Tell me , can you do in your stratosphere.

And don't forget to change the script for all preferences MIDI CC AUTOMATION. Not grab menus, just sliders

The actual engine itself is more efficient and should use less CPU. That being said, the effects always add a lot more CPU usage. Because Stratosphere has many additional effects, if you use them all at once, you can get the CPU higher than EAG Steel Strings, just due to the number of Kontakt's effects loaded at once (especially the effects that use convolution, like the reverb pedals, guitar cabs, spring reverb, and room impulse). Of course, those are just optional.

You can always bypass the built-in effects and use an external guitar effects plugin. It's not as convenient as having all the tones built-in, but that's always another option.

I'm also on i7 / 32gb RAM, and everything runs smoothly. If I have a lot of tracks going at once, I usually raise the audio buffer to 256 or so.
