This is an unmixed (still learning) version of my first song. This is basically the arrangement, and I'm having one of my friends write and sing some vocals for it (she's really good, I think itll sound great). I just want any feedback on what I can do to make it better, sound fuller and stuff, do you like it or dont like it and why, you know that stuff.

My influences stem from Flume to Purity Ring to ODEZSA to Clams Casino to everywhere.

Thanks in advance!

no one?

I like the melodies and creative effects.

I feel as though the song is direction-less though. Also, the gating that comes in around 1/3 of the way in seems out of time.

Interesting to hear and to now allow myself the same judgments :D

Maybe bass, and just spacing everything out more, with a direction in mind. Where do you want to take your listener and how will their journey end?

Oh, and make the drum part more varied. If in FL Studio, hit the clone pattern button a few times and just switch up each one just a little bit. Drummers get bored playing -exactly- the same thing over and over.

Don't be afraid of silence. It's like the white page an artist sketches on. You're sketching sound onto the silence. You can use it to add more feeling.

Calm down, it's only been a day since you posted - people do have lives outside of KVR, you know.

For a first song, I'd say that this is really good. The one thing that is really bothering me is the fade-ins on the synths. They are just too abrupt for my taste. You might want to consider thinking about making the dynamic shifts a bit less dramatic, especially since the overall vibe here seems to be a chill one.

As for the matter of fullness, I don't know if it really needs it, but I guess you could always try adding another pad to provide a subtle background sound.

Better use ghost kick for sidechain trigger :tu:

Just curious, what would be the difference? What I have now is the regular drum rack (ableton) and a seperate track that I make specifically for sidechaining. The sidechain track basically is made after the sidechain pattern that I want, which in this case is the kick drum pattern pretty much, and i just turn the master on the whole track down so it's inaudible. I assume this is the same as a ghost kick, but am I missing something that the ghost kick provides?
