Long intros aren't really my thing but when it gets going, it gets real nice. I love the melodic base that kicks in a while into the track... very catchy...

Nice clean mix, and the slow build up and break down are great - music to keep you interested but relaxed. Good stuff!

I seem to specialise in long intros, but this one was long even by my standardsDeath_Machine wrote:Long intros aren't really my thing but when it gets going, it gets real nice. I love the melodic base that kicks in a while into the track... very catchy...

The funk bass and lead parts are great once they arrive. In fact, the inventive funk bass is the star of the show. It's sort of like the bass player and keyboard player are given free reign to jam.
The mix is good. No distortions, rattles, or extreme frequencies this time. The huge, artificial sounding reverb is very prominent. I'm not sure if I like it but I don't dislike it either.
I might have preferred the mix to gel the bass and percussion into a cohesive whole. It sounds like the 70s funk bass and the 90s IDM drums were recorded in different rooms.
Your compositions sound dark and gloomy lately with an emphasis on low frequencies. Maybe things will brighten up in the spring?
The long intro is OK but not essential IMO. There is the potential to lose impatient listeners. I think the piece would be tighter if it started at around 2:10.
In the end, the sublime bass and liquid leads prevail to make this track a gas.

VERY COOL!
I like how you use the reverb as a compositional tool.
There has been a lot of that going around these days.
Reminds me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSNPegFTP9Y

Yeah. This one was quite a languid piece, despite the rhythmic components. A case of the sounds dictating the style.

The bass was fun to put together. It was the first time I managed to get Bazille onto a track. Then for a bit of fun I layered a similar patch from Rapture onto it in places. It created an interesting sound. The EP is coming from Lounge LizardFrantz wrote:The funk bass and lead parts are great once they arrive. In fact, the inventive funk bass is the star of the show. There were some fairly low frequency sounds on here before I EQd this, paticularly on the Tremor percussion, but I was worried about your best chinaFrantz wrote: The mix is good. That reverb is prominent, but the idea for the track came from the arp and reverb right at the beginning. The rest of the track was added sequntially. I quickly decided that it had to go in a "house" direction.
Whaddya mean different rooms. I did this all in the loungeFrantz wrote: I might have preferred the mix to gel the bass and percussion into a cohesive whole. It sounds like the 70s funk bass and the 90s IDM drums were recorded in different rooms.
Apart from the long Shimmer 'verb, I have CSR room on some of the other Axon percussives, Breeze (Large Room) on the Tremor Hats, Breeze (Dry Kit Ambience) on the Tremor Kick and a CSR Plate on the snare. Probably a little unconventional.
This dark, gloomy phase seemed to coincide with my attending the Ambient Music Conference last year. Maybe it's time to awaken the piglet. I have another ambient track completed, but after that I can promise you something very different, with "real" instruments.Frantz wrote: Your compositions sound dark and gloomy lately with an emphasis on low frequencies. In its current form this would certainly not be "club friendly" except possibly at closing time.Frantz wrote: The long intro is OK but not essential IMO. There is the potential to lose impatient listeners. I think the piece would be tighter if it started at around 2:10.

The EQing was successful. The can certify the mix is 100% dinnerware safe.seismic1 wrote: There were some fairly low frequency sounds on here before I EQd this, paticularly on the Tremor percussion, but I was worried about your best china

Real instruments sounds intriguing.
