John Carpenter seems incredibly underrated as an electronic film score composer and electronic music pioneer generally. I particularly like the score to Halloween 3. Unfortunately I am not a fan of the other Halloween films and some of his other films are not watchable either so it's possible I have not heard all his scores, what are the best ones?

Assault on Precint 13 was good, iirc.
I quite liked the soundtrack to The Fog too, although it's been a while since I saw/heard it.
The soundtrack to The Thing was great although Carpenter didn't write it. The main theme is chilling.

I'm sure that the famous bass line riff with the synth overlay was Carpenters.seismic1 wrote:The soundtrack to The Thing was great although Carpenter didn't write it. The main theme is chilling.

Always liked Christine. Stephen King film. Although I may have been tricked by all the Dodge action.

The interesting thing about Morricone's score for The Thing is he seems to be going out of his way to make it sound like a Carpenter score, in fact the opening chord progression sounds like the start of the Halloween 3 score.seismic1 wrote:http://www.darrenstockford.com/2011/09/ ... the-thing/lotus2035 wrote:I'm sure that the famous bass line riff with the synth overlay was Carpenters.seismic1 wrote:The soundtrack to The Thing was great although Carpenter didn't write it. I love Halloween 3, just not the slasher ones (with slasher films it's very much seen one seen them all)
