Hey guys, I've got my first set on october and I'm really nervous\excited for it. Does anyone have any tips for a first set, and any suggestions for equipment for playing live ? (I literally have no equipment at the moment and know nothing about performing electronic music, but I do want to do more behind stage than just dance to my music)

Its at a festival; not a club, too, if that makes any difference. Thanks ! :)

How does one perform live without kit?

Play pre-made set, flick some random things occasionally, interact with crowd and have fun 8)

Yes, obviously.

My point is how did you make your tracks without any kit?

You should rock out with one of these. You'll look cool.

Don't put yourself up for trainwreck, really, people would rather dance on nicely done pre-made set with DJ, than hearing same guy experimenting with some effects and ruining the flow, mixing badly and just killing the moment, just no, really, majority don't care about your skills, they care about stuff that comes from your speakers and energy you reflect on floor.

Do you know what kind of setup are you going to have have on that festival exactly?

Anyways, I think it's safe to say you are covered and if mixing records every few minutes isn't enough job for you, than hook up your laptop with bunch of effects, controller and get nuts with twisting and turning :tu:

Are you interested in playing things live, if yes, search for Tom Cosm on You Tube :tu:

Exactly, Live - deconstruct your songs to bite sized chunks - get a nice controller to trigger the clips - go!
And, if you want to perform on top of that, get an extra controller to trigger drums or so.

Yep, there's no shortage of excellent Live, er live controllers.

What can you do? I don't see what's wrong with using a laptop as part of a live performance. You haven't mentioned what software you have, what style of music, what sort of festival. If you want advice provide some information for people ...
