wow, thats the first time I hearde something in that direction...
could you explain a little more? You think its a technical/mixing issue or more a matter of taste?

def technical. just look at this frequency responce analysis of meowyork.
its all bass and midbass. i guess you can say its taste too as i have a taste for a more
even mix across the frequency spectrum.

OK, thanks for the hint. I'll look into that.
I was aware, that I tend to mix more on the bassy side, but I will do more A/Bing to make sure it stays in the realms of "matters of taste"
BTW.
What Spectrum Analyzer is that? Can you monitor your computers output with that? I think that could be handy!

its afree one by seven phazes. its a vst for PC, not sure if its avail for mac. i do a direct stream copy from soundcloud using wavosaur then monitor the content with the spec analyzer loaded into wavosaur.
i agree that tastes in how much bass, mid and treble a mix should have can vary, but i believe the recording should be flat across the spectrum to start with, then the listener can tweak it afterward with whichever tone control method they please.

Was impressed with 1000 Lives.
A mature dance concept.Everything in it`s place. Nothing overly done.
Perfect build up, holds on to the groove, and moves you along nicely. Good end for mix overlays.
Very good work.
Meow York seems not complete, but good so far.
(on desk top speakers now, so can`t remark on the low end.)

....................Don`t blame me for 'The Roots', I just live here.

umm.. Not too much bass. Some people just have to be critical I guess.
I like them both. The thing I like most is that they have very hip yet tasteful sound design. I agree that 1000 lives sounds more finished but I liked both of them.

on built in laptop speakers, yeah i suppose the bass would be fine.stillshaded wrote:umm.. Not too much bass. Some people just have to be critical I guess.
but on headphones or monitors that have good low end response
its pretty off balance as the spec analyzer shows.
and yes. i am critical. thats why i'm always told my mix sounds good.

I agree with Layzer. Meow York is unlistenable at high volume because of the bass.

Hey, first thank you all for the feedback!
I think wheter or not it is the right amount of bass, I find it very interessting that this topic came up here. I will definetly do further mixes with more critical attention to this. But that on the other hand doesnt mean, I will do it differently, just because somebody told me so . I just think, that the controversy inheres the chance to bring something into focus, which I wasnt aware of before.
So thanks to all of you!
