trying to put into effect plan to have sampler with internal zip

Translator doing the conversion. e-mu esi sampler.

initial problems+confusion due to multiple issues.

Chicken Systems support is quick to respond to try
to sort out problem, field bug reports, etc.

narrowed down to main issue: can't get Translator/PC
to read e-mu esi-formatted zip.

> what i want to do: collect+edit samples, xfer to sampler
via zip disk - *not over scsi*, at this stage, 'want to keep it simple'(hohoho)
or:
convert other sampler programs, such as soundfonts, into ready-made
e-mu esi (or eIII) banks, copy to zip disk, load to sampler.

am told Translator does this - still trying to figure it out. was hoping this
was going to be easier. what am i doing wrong?

no joy yet.
esi will only look at a disk formatted by it, windows will only
look at a disk formatted by it.

 i really hoped this would be a little bit simpler
take disk over to pc, load it up with converted samples, take it
ovr to sampler, load up there. *not so* - not so easy, anyway.

I recommend to use EMXP.
It is the program that I've got to work when it comes to file sharing between PC and Emu samplers.

All Emu samplers from E-max II to E4 family can read the E-max II format. And from EIII onwards can read the EIII format

mm don't want to write cds. maybe later, yeah,
but i gotta get this to work or i'm going to have
to get a desktop machine to put a scsi card in.

i managed to update Translator, and found my file
was crashing it.

my problem now is getting data onto the emu esi-formatted zip.
it won't do it to the 'removable drive' tab, and the zip doesn't
appear in proprietary devices.

i can see the RAW E: drive in 'manage', 96mb as it should be.
but i can't get data onto it.

more recent emu.

i've been aware of this program for a long time. loaded it once,
about ten yrs ago (before the sampler wnt in its box) - but i wasn't
aware it could do anything other than drive images - or am i confusing
it with another program?

i need to study this page+features again. esi can read eIII so maybe, if
i can read e-mu zips with it. and it's free...going to give it a go now.

that's a great-looking piece of software, and i love the DOS actions
-but i could not yet do anything with it, wouldn't let me assign wavs
in soundfont construction, or i was doing s'thing wrong. another 'hard way' !!
and cool if he does it for esi too with his October 2015 release. good that
he's kept up dvelopment since 2006 when i first saw it. i think it was? in white?
then? the manual looks very professional. i'm going to give it another spin
when i have time. the sf2 build mthod isn't that clunky, bcs you do exactly
what you need to, but by entering #s instead of mousing. encourages more
methodical approach. but the least unpredictable return, and it gets offputting.

i really want to do things fast and direct - much as the DOS thing is great.
Translator promises to be a bit slicker, if i can get it to do what i need.
i hope he IS doing esi for october and that he keeps up development. some greater
amount of automation would b good, as a reward for going DOS ! batch conversion,
etc. - i like the keyboard/group assign method, and the fact that it has primary
and secondary.

 :D a-haa! this appears resolved, 'iomega zip 250' suddenly
popped up in Translator, as a 'Proprietary drive' after i uninstalled
and re-installed+updated, and set program to 'run as admin', as
advised by ChickenSystems support.

- and that did the trick - was what was needed to 'authorize' the new
drive on the system in admin mode.
