Korg Gadget is bloody excellent but....

Here are my four Gadget gripes

1. Run audio in background. Please please please please please fix this as is No.1 priority

2. Please let app always be on i.e. no stupid power save default and black screens after 10 mins or so :(

3. Please allow definable Midi Channel, not pissing Omni mode

4. Probably the harder to implement but, please allow manual and quantizable (if that is a word) scene selection whilst in external Midi clock sync mode.

And that's it. With these four powers I would be able to conquer the Universe mwahahahahaha
Just make the music that you enjoy (failing that go for a walk, watch some porn, have a fight with a random bloke until something else happens).

Still one of the most exciting app on tablet, I agree. Just wish Korg really understand it and continue to make it evolves.

About point 2 you have to change auto sleep settings of the ipad itself. choose OFF setting to avoid "black screen"

Nope the only things that sucks is just how android market is fragmented and how a nightmare the support is for this unique reason,

You can't expect such good apps at such little price when it asks huge support from the dev, none interest for them. Support for ios apps is easy, and this easyness is where you make profit, that 's all.

and it's without speaking of audio latency issues that still exist on most android devices.

Not too bothered as there are apps that work such as Caustic and G Stomper Studio, just to counter your argument.

Though of course Ill agree Apple devs have it much easier in terms of hardware and OS versions to support

@9headshydra thanks for the tip - works beatifully.

Now if Korg could only fix bacground audio I could at least attain Demigod status FTW. 8)

?? do you mean you want to minimize Gadget, go into another app and still have Gadget playing in the background? it already does this. go to iPad Settings and pick Gadget in your list of apps on the bottom left. there's some other options in there.

It is probably better/more productive to post Korg app wishlists here ;)

Yes, the lack of channelized midi in/out and clock sync out is my only gripe about Gadget...

 Wow thanks for this I am still quite the iOS noob

All I want to do is use Gadget as a sound module/sub sequencer as part of a larger setup but still use the ipad in it's main role running TouchAble for Ableton Live. Thanks again for the help :tu:

Now if you guys have an answer for the three I would be very happy!
Last week I plugged my ipad into the electribe 2 (Ipad sequenced by electribe via Usb midi, and audio out from ipad going to audio in in electribe 2).But it seems I can only midi-control one gadget track at once :(

Post

@taldt33 I just tried this experiment with the electribe sampler here and used midi monitor for analysis.

The electribe outputs midi data on channels 1 - 16 quite happily but unfortunately Korg Gadget will only respond in omni mode as per No.3 gripe above so that whichever track is selected within Gadget it responds to the data from all 16 channels at once with the crazy audio munge that can only result from this.

There is a Midi send filter function on the electribe that allows you to strip out the note and cc data and send only Midi Clock.

A change of approach to the way you want to work here may be needed to get something more musical from this pairing.

Gadget because of the Omni issue works best in this instance as a slave/sub sequencer.

The electribe itself can work as an adequate controller for a given gadget track but the recorded data from the electribe control surface must be the recorded to the Gadget sequencer track. In order to record a track sequence to Gadget from the electribe you must mute all other tracks on the electribe whist making the recording to the particular Gadget instrument channel.

In this fashion you can build up tracks in Gadget but you will have to toggle the Midi send filter for auditioning purposes.

The other caveat from this is though is gripe No.4 in that whilst Gadget is in Midi Clock slave mode you do not get the loop option and/or the ability to select scenes randomly. An entire sequence is played through once and once only whilst in Clock slave mode :( and to restart the Gadget sequence the Master Clock must be stopped and restarted. In your case it would mean stopping and restarting the electribe. You can do the stop/start thing in a musical way you just have to be a little creative with FX and such (reverbs and delays work well here to 'bridge the gap').

Hope this info helps you to get more from your machines.

3. Please allow definable Midi Channel, not pissing Omni mode

Latest update enables assignable MIDI channel per track!

Changing scenes when in external sync is still not working unfortunately but some big updates to Gadget recently. The multiple MIDI channel thing is a massive step in the right direction!

I'd also add allow changing scenes and modulting mixer volume+pan per channel, via MIDI
