Latest News: Bitwig updates Bitwig Studio to v5.1
Can someone help me sort out where things are with UAD2?

Hi.
Tried using UAD2 plugs...I got cyclical spikes in the CPU meter and crackles. Thought at first I had overloaded on plugins, but removing the UAD plugs ended the problem.
Did a search on UAD in the forum and found a number of threads from different users, but it is a bit confusing. Is there an understood "best practice" when using UAD stuff? Should I not use UAD until further notice?
I have the latest UAD software and an octo card. My system specs are below.
Thanks.

I have a MacBook Pro with 16 GB RAM, and an Apollo Twin, which is only a duo core vs your octo. I havent experienced any problems like this.
There are a few things I guess that could be considered "best practice" that will just use your cores more efficiently, but thats not the problem here. You have more than enough power to use UAD without a problem.

Agreed. The issue isn't that the octo card is overloaded, it has something to do with the interaction between UAD and Bitwig I think. I can't imagine that I am the first to run across this (unless its a unique glitch or user error), so I wondered if there was something I missed about using the two together.
FWIW I don't have this problem with other DAWs. In reading the threads here, there seems to be some issue with UAD and Bitwig's dynamic use of plugins? (I don't know the technical term...from what I can infer, it has something to do with dynamically shutting off plugins that do not have audio signal flowing through them?)
Any insights appreciated.
Thanks for responding.

You're talking about the auto suspend feature. Right click on a plug-in and turn it off, it will probably solve any issues you are having. I've sent them a request to allow setting the default to off, since it's causing issues with a few of my plug-ins.

I have spikes with all kinds of plugins too–even after setting all auto-suspends to "off" so I'm not sure that that will solve all spikes but I also sent the request for default=off. Hoping for solution soon

Thanks folks. I'll give it a try later today.
