Postby DarkStar; Mon Jan 16, 2017 4:44 am Slicing / mapping in TX16Wx

I posted this elsewhere, but thought that it could be handy here too:

Slicing / mapping is relatively straight-forward. :)
(a) browse to your loop and drag it onto a single key in the Keyboard Mapper

(b) Switch to the Wave Editor, select the loop and slice it (automatically using the Threshold and Transient Slice button at the top) or manually (insert your own slice points)

(c) If needed (and it generally is), zoom in and nudge the slice points into position, add or remove slice points

(d) drag the whole loop (not the slices) onto the [Keyboard mapper] button and thence onto a single key in the Keyboard Mapper and lay out the slices.

(e) drag the mapped group of slices into your DAW host (Reaper in this case) to get the MIDI clip to play them in sequence; click Play.

Thanks DarkStar, succinct and nicely laid out.
Could you elaborate a bit on how you would use the last step (dragging into Reaper)? Is this just to simply hear the slices at a tempo to check your work, or is there something further you would do with the midi clip?

That gives me a 'chromatic' MIDI clip in the DAW with each note playing back a single slice (hit) of the loop, positioned so that the loop plays back completely.

Typically you would then edit the MIDI clip to transpose the notes (to play different slices), move them (to change the groove) or just use some notes to trigger the slices when you want. Give it a go.

Ok, thanks, understood....just as you would normally do with midi triggering any VSTi..(facepalm). For some reason (not seeing wood for the trees), and because the slices were just laid out in TX16 without further organizing into a usual program (bass drum on 36 etc whatever), the obvious had not occurred to me.
Cheers.

Hey, I know this was originally posted a while ago, but I'm running into a snag with the last step, there's a gap at the end and the midi items played consecutively don't recreate the smooth loop. Thanks!

Hi,
Mind the envelope, specially the release time.
Make sure that the tempo is ok as well.

Thanks, looks like the tempo fixed it, but I'm still getting that gap at the end and I tried new projects with a couple different loops, the loops doesn't match up with the bars fro some reason

I think that's more my weak reaper knowledge: I know it can work because the original post pictures had reaper, lol

Hi,
it seems that not all the slices are equal in length.
Use the numbered way.

Thanks, sorry to bug you again, I think I'm missing something really obvious, I tested with 4 even slices and matched the tempo before I dragged it in, but still have the gap after the last midi note, if I loop it until the end of the last midi note it sounds fine, but it's not lining up with the time line for some reason

Can you upload the audio loop somewhere, so that we can try?

Hi,
It does not :(
Modify the link. dl=0 should be dl=1.

Anyway, it seems that you did not set the Reaper's tempo to match the wave's one.
Set the tempo to 114,34 bpm.

Awesome, thanks for your help ! I was able to get it to work from scratch loading your version of the loop (reads as 114 BPM in sampler). But when I load my version of the loop it read as 139 for some reason. I think I need to figure it out, because I'm missing something obvious, but thanks for your help and it's set me on the right direction!
