I always just default to the same usual suspects. Kombinant DVA, Amplitube/T-Racks singles, VTAPE, and Saturn. I just bought the Soundtoys bundle, and there are some choice nuggets in there too. What do you like to use? Why?

Quadrafuzz 2 and Magneto 2 for saturation, Trash 2 for heavier disortion.

SDRR by Klanghelm is extreme versatile for the price. Maybe not as versatile as Saturn or Saturator X, but it's a steal of a deal. Native Instruments' Supercharger GT is not exactly a saturator per se, but it has a wicked saturation stage, and I've never been disappointed with the results.

In the free realm, Fuzz Plus 3 is pretty good. SGA1566 can get really crunchy. If there's any sites that still distribute Audio Assault's free version of Headcrusher, it's also worth looking at. I use it pretty frequently. If there's still anywhere to get that Acustica Audio plugin Aquavox, that's also good.

With the Soundtoys bundle you got Devil-Loc Deluxe :D wich is a very snappy compressor and limiter-style drum smasher. My favorite ST plugin.

Izotope Trash for all flavours of mix / mastering saturation and distortion. I drop in on pretty much every track for tape saturation and subtle multiband control. It can still go absolutely crazy wild (just check presets), but I didn't use it much for that purpose yet.

D16 Devastor for hard 303 lines and total synth overdrive. Good thinga freind recommended it to me, I had a chance to grab it for free and I don't regret now :). Bread and butter of trance.

The Wave Arts Tube Saturator 2, Brainworx bx_saturator V2 and IK Multimedia Saturator X are three of my favorites.

However, I mainly use them for gentle saturation on tracks to add warmth.

I always come back to Saturation Knob.
Sometimes I also use Plug & Mix analoger.
And lately been playing with multiband distortion using HY-MBDRIVE (It's discontinued now and was replaced by HY-MBMFX)

I've been collecting a few of these. Which one I prefer to use depends on what I need from it.

For example do I needs more high end energy to brighten the mix?? Maybe more low end, maybe both. Do I want to create warmth and weight in the mids, do I need something to help cut through the mix??

Ao the question I think should be asked is what job do I need filling for this mix and what is the most appropriate plugin for that task??

Currently I have my eyes on Elysia's Karacter, possibly SPL's TwinTube. However, currently I have...

SPL Vitalizer
IK Multimedia Saturator-X
iZotope Trash
Vertigo VSM-3
Waves Aphex Exciter
Waves Cobalt Saphira
Waves LowAir
Waves MaxxBass
Waves NLS
Waves Vitamin

At least, these are the ones I can think of right now. Plus various gritty compressors and eqs that I can set up to inject some kind oh harmonic character into the mix.

They all do a brilliant job, depending on the context.

I still like RP-Distort as general distortion toolbox. Horrific GUI but sounds nice.
