I am not sure I understand what you are asking for. Can't you record MIDI just in your DAW without any VST?Trancit wrote:Like the title says... I am looking for a simple midi recorder.... any ideas????
Edit: export as midi file or drag n drop to DAW is needed as well.

Are you looking for a standalone midi-recorder? This one supports Windows and Linux.

I am using FL Studio and sadly it isn´t able to record anything from inside like i.e. the output of a midi VST like Blue Arp etc... so I need a plugin inside of my DAW to record it´s output...martin_l wrote:

This looks very complicated...VariKusBrainZ wrote: http://www.raxntrax.com/circlys
Need something more classic/straight foreward
Yeah, tried it already, but somehow, I cannot use it properly, respectfully don´t know, how it works...sinkmusic wrote: http://www.thepiz.org/plugins/?p=midiLooper
I didn´t find any documentation or tutorials...

If you've got soft modular chops, and you might eventually be interested in working with a modular environments (if you aren't already!) you could take a look at Plogue Bidule.
Unfortunately you won't be able to test the ease of using the midi recorder in the plugin with the demo license, but you could splash out on the early-bird license $95 and see if it fits your requirements, which _are_ pretty basic!
Or it might be a bit of an overkill..

No need to set a tempo first, you even do not have to start your sequencers transport.
Just start playing!
Amazon: why not use an alternative

I am not using FL myself, but I am surprised that it does not offer any routing options.Trancit wrote:I am using FL Studio and sadly it isn´t able to record anything from inside like i.e. the output of a midi VST like Blue Arp etc... so I need a plugin inside of my DAW to record it´s output...martin_l wrote:

Have you tried an "external loopback"? For example:

I should mention that I have not tested this one. I have used the Hubi's loopback device previously, but I doubt it will still run on a modern 64bit Win7/8/10 platform.

XT 2.6 VST doesn´t work well in FLS ... get a lot of crashesZeePok wrote:
Maybe you could try the VST version of EnergyXT (1 or 2). And have you tried Mux?
I have MUX, but the event recorder of MUX only saves MUX internal sequences but not MIDI files... I would have bring that in Mulab first to be able to save it as Midi... too much hassle.
Sadly it does not... it is a restriction of the old days, where Gol thought it would be a good idea to not use Midi internaly... FLS uses it´s own protocol and cannot record anything from inside...martin_l wrote: I am not using FL myself, but I am surprised that it does not offer any routing options.
That´s what I do atm, but once you don´t pay attention you end up with a midi feedback loop and can loose your unsaved work... that´s why I am searching for an alternative...Have you tried an "external loopback"? For example:
