Okay guys. Back to normal contest this month! No bad vibes aloud. We’ve got some good ideas in the hopper from previous months or we can do a nice, soothing de-escalating chill theme. Lawrence Welk meets Kenny G meets Wilco...

Chill out ?
it will do, imo
I don-t recall having it done, lately...

I like the theme. Could go for some waves lapping on a beach and some cellos.

Since you still didn't read my PM still, Victor (else the conversation would be via PM). And you're also steering away from my commentray/proposal from the April Gossip thread...

I take it a collaboration in May won't be happening?

So is this where we kick around ideas for May's contest? I assume the theme decided on will be announced in another thread like last month with all the rules. Sorry, still trying to find my way around here. This is all new for me.

Back to normal for May! And yep, this is where we kick around ideas for May’s contest.

In the UK, May is traditionally the month for village fairs - usually end of the month Bank Holiday.
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently now an 'elderly' so maybe I forgot!

I feel I must warn you (the little people of Stonehenge...) that I've bought a mandolin and fully intend on using it, whatever the theme.

I hear some plucking in the future. I've always wanted a violin myself if just to look at...sigh. Probably will be off for business in May but curious to hear the next round. Fun to hear the diversity and the creativity. If the theme comes out early enough I might be able to contribute. Cuing up my Enya reference tracks.

I see this month's theme is chill out. I honestly have no idea what that is. Can somebody post a few groups for me to listen to so I can get an idea of what chill out is?

Man, and I thought I knew all the musical genres. LOL

Other than that... I sadly didn't get a response to my PM (aimed at Victor), and there was also no further comment on a possible collaboration. It's cool though. I definitely garnered some interest for/in some of you, so I can't ask for more.

If your creativity is super high and you need to channel that in some shape or form, you can still join over on the Mix Challenge community if you want.

The "Songwriting Challenge" is a bit different this month, as it's not just focusing on songwriting but "producing something" in general fitting to the given theme (Spies among us). And if that doesn't tickle your fancy, we have a Remix Challenge running as well - where you can remix a 8bit Robo-Punk production to whatever genre you feel like.

Both games end on 24th May 2018 11:59pm GMT+2/CEST

The rules are super simple and structured (don't let the length scare you off, transparency sadly needs detailed explanation).
Joining is completely free.

See you on the flipside! :tu:

It's basically more about a vibe than it is any particular musical genre. You can do a search on YouTube for "chill-out" music, but here's an okay sampler of more of a contemporary lounge style: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szL8QmWgCGo . I guess there's also substantial overlap with the current synthwave movement (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOMwO5T3yT4) but chill-out music is by no means limited to just electronic or instrumental music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlsdMpnDBn8
