Hi,

Does anyone know of any plugins that can map midi notes into scales? For example, a plugin that if, you were to chose C Major would remap midi data as follows:

IN ->OUT
=========
C -> C
C# -> D
D -> E
D# -> F
E -> G
F -> A
F# -> B
G -> C

On the LinnStrument FAQ page, General tab, the first FAQ contains a link to an external computer application that will do that.

Thank you Roger. According to the FAQ, the software is for Windows and MAC, however when I go to the linked software, it says its for Mac only.

I stand corrected. I've just revised the FAQ to state that it's only a Mac application. You could try contacting the writer to ask him if he would be willing to export his Max patch as a standalone Windows application?

Will do. I did find another app, that well, doesn't remap chromatically, does map the "white keys" out to 1,000s of scales. The "black keys" appear to be programmable scale presets. I purchased it last night and am having fun with it. Just wish it was chromatic. Here's a link. They appear to be out of Vienna, Austria. https://www.autotonic.net/

I spoke with the owner Rick who stated

"That is correct, the stand-alone version is OS X only.

The max patch can be used in Live on Windows."

Here is a link to their site.

If you happen to use Ableton Live, the Scale MIDI effect device does almost exactly that. I would suspect many other DAWs have something similar built in.

Thanks. I saw a number of things today only available in Ableton Live. Seems like I should get it someday.

I use midi-ox on windows to accomplish a variety of channel and note re-mappings. Initial setup is tedious but you can save templates in the program so you only need to do it once. It is free.

You might also be interested in the loopmidi driver that creates virtual midi devices on your system, combined with midi-ox you can route and merge streams, process in between them, etc. I have a couple plugins that only give you the choice of all channels or a single channel, so to accomplish multiple specific channels while doing split, I have to route my desired channels to the virtual device to keep the plugin from responding to input from the opposite side.

I can also vouch for MIDI-OX. It's been my go-to MIDI utility for Windows forever now. It just works. It has proven to be a very useful and reliable program. And it's free. What's not to love (grin)?

Cheers!

Cales by CodeFN42 does the job for me. It's simple and easy:
