Hello.
I want to share my new release.
It is an instrumental EP in a mixed genre of Trip-Hop and Jazz. In my opinion at least.

Feedback is welcome =)

Full EP here: https://the-eighth.bandcamp.com/album/lost-readings (https://the-eighth.bandcamp.com/album/lost-readings)
It's also available on all popular music platforms such as iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, etc.

Some technical info:
Recorded, mixed and mastered in Ardour.
Plugins and instruments used: Sforzando, Dexed, Bristol.
Additional hardware for sound design: Analog Heat, SP-404SX.

P.S: I may do some mistakes, so sorry for my bad English.

My Feedback

Music - 7.5
Instruments - 8
Performance - 8
Mix - 7

Overall - 7.625

Comments: Nice mix of genre here. Yes, I hear the hip hop and the jazz. Very unusual. Kudos for that. Mix is a tiny bit muddy. Could use some EQ.

Well, the "muddy" mix may be a result of wrong use of monitors. Or it's just my ears.
Anyway, thanks for the comment!

I like the composition and where this is heading. I agree with wagtunes, the mix does sound muddy. You have instruments crossing over the same frequency range in the bottom end, which doesn't help.

It sounds quite interesting, has a live mix feel to it, although at times there does appear to be another party going on next door, not as inviting as this track, nevertheless its still there :)

agree with wagtunes, the mix does sound muddy.

But how bad is it from listener's perspective?
although at times there does appear to be another party going on next door

What does it mean? :) The same, I mean, muddy mix?

I actually used Yamaha HS-5 and Avantone Mixcube ProActive for both stereo and mono mixing, but I'm not sure that it is monitor's fault. I remember that I "cut" some high frequencies, but don't know why. Maybe I thought that it might be cool.

Maybe, there is some advice other from using an EQ for making mix cleaner? Or more accurate EQ "handling" could do the trick? I'm asking because I'm working on "part two" of this project, which is an LP - more tracks, more work to do.
