First of all, thank you very much for creating the free alfa for mac. I've some comments however.
The sound is very, very good, but I cannot load the free banks. The file typing is not ok (for Mac, that is)after installing, tried to fix it using Autotyper which will change the icon and type to proper Mac VST ones...still won't load however.
Second is that the installer installs the plugin in a seperate folder outside VST. We can drag this folder to it's proper place but why then bother with an installer?
Just trying to help here, no criticism intended, keep up the good work Peter!
Best regards,
Macmod

FreeAlpha has its own loader in the lower right, did you try that ?

Sure, you have to point the installer to the VST plugins folder or it will create a default directory "LinPlug". But when you point it to your VST-plufig-dir it should do fine. I thought thats the normal way of doing on Mac, maybe I missed something there... (?)

Best regards

Macmod -
Just load one of the presets from inside Alpha (bottom right, folder symbol), then after that Alpha always has the presets loaded, just use L-R arrows to change between them.

I can't get it to unstuff without error. I get a broken stuffit icon. I've downloaded it three times and get the same result each time. Anyone else having this problem? the same thing happened when I downloaded the DeltaIII demo.

I suspect that you didn't get the entire file. It took me three tries each to get Free Alpha and the Delta III beta; apparently either the download manager or the LinPlug server likes to arbitrarily terminate long downloads. You might try downloading them at a different time of day and hope that there is less traffic on the LinPlug site.

OK Peter,

Yes, without luck...

Whats Autotyper ?

Erm, that's a free proggie which sets the file type right. For instance the preset files for Alpha get a text file type after unstuffing, which is not good of course. My guess is that this causes SonicVI'problems too..
...Autotyper corrects this to the proper type. In fact I found it here on KvR....http://www.kvr-vst.com/bank.php
Didn't help but corrected the icon though ;-)

Ok, took a look at it and I'd expect your problems come from using it. Its good for banks but I'd rather expect it to make problems with patches as we distribute it. Actually the MAC file type is irrelevant to the Alpha's preset browser it simply takes fxp-files by either MAC-type or fxp-extension, so it should work fine normally.

However there seem to be a number of people that have problems within Logic. I recommend removing the "LinPlug" folder and subfolders with in the VSTplugins folder of LOGIC, this should do the Job.

Best regards

I think my problem was that I downloaded it in OSX and tried to unstuff it in OS9. I don't see why that would be a problem, I've done it before, but nevertheless I now have it and it's cool and working fine for me in Logic 4.8. This is definitely a freebie that I'd love to see ported to OSX by the time a capable OSX sequencer is available. Already I'd have to say it's the best sounding freebie synth for Mac that I've heard, even better than some nonfreebies like Model E (no legato, what's with that?). I love the simpler lead/bass synths and this one is really great, very simple operation, no learning curve, it's all just right there and easy to use. The filter sounds great too, the first dot or so on the low end range of the filter really hurts my speakers though. The portamento is great too, it's very fast and snappy like an old Moog. very nice job and thanks LinPlug.

I am having the same problems with logic as was mentioned:

Now, i tried doing this, but it _didn't_ do the job.
Logic 4.81 MacOs 9.2, DualG4 800 1 gig ram

any other ideas?

thanks

all's well now with freealpha Peter (it was my holiday bug I suppose)....your own interface will load the presets and I shouldn't have messed about with the Filetyper...the automatic installer is still very peculiar...it started deleting my other plugins when i pointed it to Cubase/vst plugins...I aborted the installation and did it manually, if you don't mind :-)
regards and keep on Macin' your plugs!
