Just read the KvR news, downloaded Kn0ck0ut and tried it. It's amazing!

Basically, if you have:
Sound 1: A sound (bass, guitar, vocals, ...)
Sound 2: A beat with that sound on it
...you can get the clean beat out of sound 2.

I tried it with "Untitled Heavy Heat, Pt. 1 & 2" by DJ Shadow...
I sampled the beat with the bassline on it, ...
...sampled the bassline itself (from the beginning of the song) and...
...got the cleaned beat! It sounds amazing despite the loss of the low end.

Of course it works best with sample/loop based music, because the results are only decent if sound 1 appears similar in sound 2. And in sample-based music that's neccessarily the case.

I wonder if there are similar plugins to compare it with...
However, breakbeat cleaning seems to have come to a new level Smile

If you EQ those drums to put some low end back in it, does the bassline reappear?

No. Tried it with Kjaerhus Classic EQ, perhaps commercial EQs give a different result.

I say knockout for noise removal... try it using the same technique. I got so excited that I had started a thread earlier and then I saw this. like I said in the other thread

q: free noise removal vst?

a: knockout

works great for me. hopefully you'll like the results too. my mic has an awful self noise and I had been looking for a free way of correcting this. I'm really glad you made knockout. it cancels out some frequencies but at least there's no noise.

thank you st3pan0va We're not worthy....

It's SO much more fun to put two random unrelated signals through it - try removing all traces of Britney Spears' "Toxic" from a four-minute sample of industrial machinery or crowd hubbub. Is the ghost of a song still copyrighted?

wow, a 2 year dead thread comes back to life. spooky. but while we're here, KFW I couldn't resist trying yr suggestion. and though it's not music exactly, i figure there are enough people here who can stand strange noise that it's worth posting my experiment FYI.

http://www.freewebs.com/st3pan0va/freak_noise.mp3

it's missy elliot - get yr freak on subtracted from a combination of white noise and sawtooth dischord.

link doesn't open when i click on it, not sure why, so if for any reason you want to listen to the file, you might have to copy and paste.

OK, ghosts exorcised, now the thread can rest in peace.

St3pan0va, as i find you, i wanted to congratulate your for the other spectral plugin you did (Sp3ctr3). It is very nice to warp sound !
But i can't find it anymore on the web, and it causes a lot of glitching... Is there any update planned (with cpu improvements ,and no unwanted glitches, as even when the track with Sp3ctr is bypassed, all my projects crackles), or has it been released "as is" and will stay in the internet limbs forever ?

sinkmusic - thanks! i've made one update, to v0.2 with CPU hit cut by 50% (still high though), which you may already have. if not you can DL from

http://www.freewebs.com/st3pan0va/sp3ctr3.htm

too busy right now to work on it at all, but still have plans to optimize more, fix the GUI and add some features (midi cc and another mangling method) over the next few weeks.

(sorry all for bumping this ancient thread again. this is the last time...)
