The trick is in the synth programming, and the post-processing done in the mix. I think a lot of people tend to forget about all the processing that takes place during recording, and try to look for a synth preset that sounds exactly like their favorite "sound of the week" without the benefit of any external effects...

Normally I'd agree with this statement. However, this one doesn't sound like it's processed much at all. I recreated it using just a filtered square wave, pitch and filter envelopes. The first one is Sytrus. Just for fun the second one uses the ol'school DreamStation.

Wow! Really good! Yes, I agree with you completely...it didn't sound too complicated to me.

And whoever thinks Gwen Stefani makes her own beats is incorrect. Dr. Dre, The Neptunes, and Andre 3000 are to thank.

To me it sounds like an 808, pitched down, going through some lo fi effect or something..

By the way, I really like this song..

HiHi I was just kidding around there, but seriously, I found the swept drum sound to be the most interesting thing in the piece. HiHi

There's just no way to predict personal taste. (I include my own in that. I'm really not picking on anyone.)

take care,

Hi McLilith..

I find this piece really interesting. I am not talking about the lyrics, but the music. Very original me thinks. Very percussive. I like the use of the acoustic guitar, and the brass is sweet. I am not a no doubt fan ( I do like "Hey baby" though) nor am I a Gwen fan, but I have this particular song on my playlist. I also have 1 Britney Spears song ( Toxic )and 1 Justin Timberlake song (can't remember the title ). If I like it I like it..

These days I am more into Zero 7, Amon Tobin, and Air though Wink

In the song she says B A N A N A S

Hehehe.. actually I could live with an instrumental only version but still with the "oooooouuuuhhhsss" on it.. Smile

On another note.. what's up with U2's "uno,dos,tres,catorze...". One, two, three, fourteen? Nutter

What is the deal with Toxic? This my sh** too. Smile When they had a guilty pleasures song conversation on here, that seemed to be the number one. I think there's a difference between Gwen Stefani and Britney though...Gwen got famous by playing shows with her band...learning the ins and outs of all sides of music. Britney got famous on the Mickey Mouse Club.

Good call on Air. Some of the best music of these days.
