Acoustic is a simple acoustic body resonator model, consisting of a first order mass-spring for modeling the Helmholtz or 'air' frequency, and a banded waveguide.... [more]
Aerophone models lip valve instruments with cylindrical bores such as trumpets and trombones. The lip valve is modeled with an oversampled 3rd order mass-spring to emulate expressive styles of brass performance. The elementary circuit is an effective platform for producing a range of emulative timbres, however to apply humanised performance values requires significant effort and knowledge on the part of the user.... Circuit creates rhythms by joining short phrases together. This is intended to produce more natural algorithmic sequences by evening the distribution of beats and rests. In Circuit, probability values are used to determine the pattern of phrases, and to translate the steps of each phrase into MIDI notes. Dynamic and complex sequences can then be produced by adjusting a few parameters or with modulation. Circuit has 4 sequencing channels that tap the same pattern, and a 3 stage counter for creating fills. The GUI includes performance oriented controls and enough modulators for automated applica... Fauna is a simple waveguide model of the vocal tract intended to provide a flexible platform for the synthesis of abstract and animal voices. Waveguide synthesis is a physical modeling technique that makes use of delay lines to model the transmission of acoustic vibrations. A sample rate of 44.1kHz translates to a distance of less than 1cm under normal atmospheric conditions, so modern computers can achieve a degree of accuracy in acoustic modeling. The delay bore is divided into five sections. Reflection coefficients control the transmission between segments, which effectively emulate the a... [more]
Friction is a physical modeling synthesizer designed to be applicable to a range of emulative tasks, and is suitable for budget foley production or experimental music. The architecture applies a friction algorithm to a 2nd order mass-spring, modeling the reactivity of surfaces in contact. Two waveguides are used to model the primary resonances of a physical object. The synthesis engine employs 4x oversampling, providing reasonable emulations of sounds produced by friction, such as squealing tires, squeaky hinges and wiping noises. Modulation consists of three 32-stage envelopes (designed by Ch... [more]

Mass and Cymbal are percussion synthesizers that use mass-spring models to produce realistic dynamic and timbral effects. Boundary conditions imposed upon the movement of a multi-order mass-spring provide complex timbres that evoke common modes of vibration in acoustic forms. These models are augmented with conventional subtractive elements to comprise low-CPU solutions for improved realtime percussion synthesis. ... [more]

Period Seq is a simple algorithmic MIDI generator that applies four counters to two clocks and four reset rates. It can produce non-repeating or complex, structured feeling sequences automatically. The GUI is designed for applying performance variations in use. Each counter normally creates MIDI notes at a regular periodic interval after being reset. Counters can be used to reset other counters, so that modulating the selection of clocks and reset rates applied to each counter can produce complex variation in the output. LFOs can also be reset periodically for sequencing contour effects. Per... [more]
Phase Seq easily generates unquantised looping MIDI sequences that are more difficult to achieve in some hosts. Up to eight events are triggered at manually set phase positions and three columns of sliders are dedicated to modulating the position of each trigger by the LFOs. The immediate application would be for loose timing variation, or special effect sequences, like speeding up or slowing down, or for sequences with erratic timing. Some more subtle timing effects are possible, e.g. by scaling the effect of an LFO on each step (as pictured on the screenshot) the LFO will stretch and conden... [more]
Phybes is a physically modeled VST instrument suited for emulation of vibraphone and similar mallet instruments. A mass-spring modeled mallet impulse is applied to a banded waveguide to produce continuous tonal variation in response to dynamic performance. A coupled waveguide creates resonator and modulation effects to provide a low resource emulation with pleasing dynamic timbrality suitable for many compositional applications.... [more]
Piamo is a simple physical model of a piano, providing dynamic timbral expression in a modest and flexible emulation. The model consists of a 3rd order mass-spring hammer and coupled waveguides with tuned 6th order allpass filters for modeling string stiffness. All notes use two strings whereas pianos range from one to three strings per note. Three allpass delay tiers model soundboard and cabinet resonances.... [more]

Pling3 is an essential plucked string, completing xoxos' ideal implementation by adding tuned allpass filters and coupled orthagonal waveguides (modeling horizontal and vertical string vibration) to the previous build. The model is intended to suit many applications and is geared towards low CPU use. Simple Helmholtz resonators are added to emulate acoustic volume, intending supplementary processing to be used to amend emulations. A second version, Pling3b, is included with an oversampled string.... [more]
Populus generates MIDI sequences using an algorithm modeled on biological behaviour. The measure is treated as a 'year' and note events are determined by parameters describing the 'life cycle' of each note. The sequences are usually patterned, yet rarely repeat exactly, creating motif-like qualities. Populus was created for Computer Music Magazine and is included with all xoxos VST license purchases.... q2midi is a 'note generator' - when any gate signal is received, an algorithmic sequence set to key and rhythmic specifications is output along your MIDI chain. The q-engine is the same as employed in xoxos q-series VST instruments, now applicable to any instrument. Two more 'layers' of randomization are 'nested' around the gate and pitch generators for creating complex patterns that repeat or transpose motifs, or don't. q2midi also includes a separate assignable CC# control in addition to gate, pitch and velocity output.q2midi is bundled with arp2midi as a $5 bundle.... Two separate counters are assignable to three gate and three modulation sequences. The counters are modulated by three LFOs, four random step modulators and several performance-oriented GUI controls. The architecture is flexible and adapts to many purposes. While not intended, it can be used as a powerful arpeggiator and presents an intuitive mapping of pitch cycling functions. The multi-trigger element from Circuit VSTi creates rhythmi... [more]

Syng2 is a voice synthesizer which uses four band-pass filters to produce formants in any spectrally rich input signal, or using an internal oscillator. The phoneme can be selected on a second MIDI channel for precise timing of speech, or preset words can be triggered on a third MIDI channel. Syng2 was designed as an intelligible, low-CPU voice engine for Breathcube 2.
