Sanford Sound Design has announced the release of Introduction to Subtractive Synthesis, a 30 minute instructional video that teaches you what subtractive synthesis is and how synthesizers that use subtractive synthesis work. SSD uses its Cobalt VSTi as an example of a subtractive synthesizer. All of the major components used with subtractive synthesis are covered in detail such as oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs, and more. The video ends with a short tutorial taking all that we've learned and applying it to create a synth bass sound.

Introduction to Subtractive Synthesis is a great video if you are new to synthesizers. You'll learn the basics that will give you a strong foundation to build upon. For those at a more advanced level, you may still find some nuggets here and there that will make the video worthwhile.

The video is $15 and is available in WMV and MOV format.
