PlugInGuru.com has released MegaMagic:Cello, a library of beautiful cello samples in 9 articulations for Omnisphere 2.1+, Kontakt 5.7 and EXS24. The library contains 75 Multis, 138 Patches and 243 cello samples. The instrument was played by Portland professional concert cellist Kevin Deitz and engineered by Drew Canulette at his studio in North East Portland.
The articulations included are:
- Vibrato.
- No Vibrato.
- Down and Up with Vibrato.
- Crescendo.
- Pizzicato.
- Spiccato.
- Marcato.
- Motion Slow.
- Motion Fast.
- 4 Synth pads created by combining cello with other synths (created by John Lehmkuhl).
All the above samples are provided in both dry as well as MegaMagic versions. MegaMagic is a unique PlugInGuru sound (found also in MegaMagic Guitars, Bells & Winds and 2 other libraries) which blends 3 different reverbs and other effect processing into the samples for a unique result. Playing 14 seconds of reverb that never becomes muddy is a unique experience due to the fact the reverb is not an effect... There are also some of the articulations recorded with Plate reverb as well as a variation/bonus.
These sample maps are not the typical thousands of samples and multiple Gigabytes in size of most modern day sample libraries. There are only 7 or 8 samples used in the Omnisphere version of the library due to the fact a Multi contains 8 patches but each patch zone can contain a maximum of one sample.
PlugInGuru say "Because of John "Skippy" Lehmkuhl's 27+ years of sample and programming experience, the end result of these maps are far more realistic and WAY more dynamic than you would think. The "Down and Up with Vibrato" and the "Motion Slow" versions are beautiful to play and are quite convincing to listen to. Combining the lush Atmosphere Strings that come with Omnisphere 2 with the cello samples creates the most convincing string ensemble presets to date."
On top of this, John released a 12-sample demo library 2 weeks before the release of the full library and invited PlugInGuru customers to make patches for the final version of the library. Over 250 patches were created by customers from around the world - 100 of those patches are in the final version of the library as a creative bonus library where cello samples are used to make a variety of inspiring patches for dance, chill and EDM music.
The Kontakt 5 version (requires the full version of Kontakt 5.7) and the EXS24 versions contain just the basic instrument maps which are very useful but don't have bonus patches and Multis like the Omnisphere 2.1 version. One purchase gives you access to all 3 libraries.
Retail is $49 but it is on sale for $45 until December 1st.
