Jonathan Schmid-Burgk has released House Effect, a VST effect plugin that makes it easy to create the extreme compression often found in some styles of House music. Simply chain it as an insert-effect after your synthesizer and connect its MIDI input to the bassline via an aux-send of the percussion track. The bass drum will then trigger a strong gain.

House Effect VST is available for Windows as a free VST effect plug-in. It is also Open Source (GPL) although you need to contact Jonathan to obtain the code.
