Oscillicious has announced the release of SongStarter, a new standalone tool for creative song-writing, based on a live looping workflow. A free beta is now available for download.

Oscillicious says "In a world of increasingly complicated super workstations, SongStarter takes you back to basics. There's no racks, buses, or chains, so you can focus on pure melody; the joy of song-writing that started you on the path to being a musician in the first place."

With a workflow based on live looping, you can quickly layer up loops using built-in instruments to create the heart of a song. When you're done layering up a great melody, the Instant Export menu allows you to drag and drop export a MIDI of your creation into the most popular DAWs, so you can continue producing your track with the workflow you've already mastered.

SongStarter can be downloaded for Windows and Mac OS X for free during beta.

SongStarter for Google Chrome is also available via the Chrome Web Store, allowing you to jam and write music directly in your web browser.
