Production Voices has announced the release of Production Grand, a large piano sample library for Kontakt 4 and Kontakt 5.
Production Grand features 8 microphone perspectives of a Yamaha C7 grand piano recorded in a large professional commercial studio environment. The library ships on a USB 3.0 hard drive with 24-bit 96 kHz, 44.1 kHz and 16-bit 44.1 kHz versions. A courtesy download of a small portion of the library is included to get users started. There are vintage and modern microphones and several microphone positions to blend including inside, piano hammers, player's perspective and rooms.
Production Voices say "Producers and engineers will appreciate the vintage Neumann and Coles microphones, Neve and API microphone preamps and the Burl converters used to create the piano sample library. Performers, composers, songwriters and enthusiasts will appreciate the variety of tone and nuance possible from the 8 different microphone perspectives".
The goal of "Production Grand" is to provide a grand piano sample library that has the microphone choices that an engineer, artist or producer would want to have from a grand piano studio recording accessible in one sample library. Production Grand gives the user the nuance and control of a studio recorded grand piano in one sampled grand piano instrument.
Price: $329.

Compatible with the full version of Kontakt 4 or Kontakt 5 only. Not for use with Kontakt Player.

fizzicist (sigh)...yet another "killer" piano sample library...except that by now I've been burned too many times by virtual piano instruments that sound great in the solo demo tracks (the vast majority are solo, with no other instruments), but turn out sounding like garbage in an actual mix with other instruments. I won't mention any names, but my libraries hard drive is full of them, and I've had my fill of them.
At 430 GB on its own dedicated USB drive, "Production Grand" might well be the piano library from heaven (...or hell, as the case may be). Anyhow, I'm just not able to get excited any more, especially when the developer doesn't offer a way to actually try the instrument before spending the big bucks. I recognize that it's a problem for anyone trying to sell an expensive piano instrument, but that's the reality of the virtual instrument market nowadays. I've spent way too much hard-earned cash on piano libraries that don't play well with other instruments. If I can't try it, I won't buy it.
