Noatikl

Noatikl (pronounced "noh - tickle") is a new generative music system by Pete Cole and Tim Cole, creators of the 2001 BAFTA-award winning SSEYO Koan Interactive Audio Platform, and the 2005 BAFTA-award winning SSEYO miniMIXA.

noatikl creates musical information in the form of MIDI notes, and can also generate and send MIDI controller information to control settings of synths, FX units and samplers.

There are noatikl variants available for both Windows and Mac OS X, including plugin versions for Logic (AU), Sonar (VSTi, DXi/MFX MIDI Effect), Cubase (VSTi, MIDI Effect), Ableton Live (VSTi), Reaper (VSTi), etc. as well as a standalone version, very useful in its own right, for where there is no suitable plugin variant, e.g. Pro Tools.

noatikl can be used in a number of ways, including:

  • Generation of new musical ideas.
  • Breaking composer's block.
  • Augmenting an existing musical work.
  • Creating ambient sound tracks.
  • Experimenting with generative music systems.
  • Noodling with music sculptures.
  • Generatively changing synth, FX and sampler settings.

Depending on your platform (Windows or Mac), noatikl comes in a variety of different variants to help you work the way you like to work.

noatikl standalone is an application that comes in the following variants:

  • Windows: standalone application.
  • Mac: standalone application (the recommended approach for Pro Tools).

noatikl plug-ins are audio plug-ins that work with your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) tools and come in the following variants:

  • Windows: VSTi (for Cubase, Reaper, Ableton Live, etc.).
  • Windows: DXi/MFX MIDI Effect plug-in (for Sonar/Cakewalk).
  • Windows: VST Module Architecture SDK MIDI Effect (MIDI Effect for Cubase, etc.).
  • Mac: VSTi (for Cubase, Ableton Live, etc.).
  • Mac: AU (Audio Unit - for Logic, GarageBand, etc.).
