Abstrung is a double engine themed rompler, geared towards "All things Strung" type of sounds, therefore it includes a selection of stringed instruments like GuZheng, Mandolin, Pipa, American Zither, Hammered Dulcimer, Kantele, Acoustic Guitars, Acoustic grand, upright and prepared pianos and Seagull instrument among others. The different categories include organic real instruments samples, modeled, synthetised, designed and spacey sounds.
Abstrung hides a powerful randomiser engine, a twin step sequencer and a "Trails layer" which adds motion to each patch.
Abstrung comes with 155 sound sources loadable in 2 different slots, plus 20 Trails.
Each sound source is multisampled and comes with 3 round robins.
Audiofier's new "intelligent" Randomiser feature makes it incredibly easy to create new sounds quickly and makes presets redundant.
It also possible to recall past randomisations and go back and forth in the randomisation history, also recalling past randomisation on the fly.
Even though the Randomisation engine plays a big part in Abstrung, for the most creative producers, Abstrung still offers the possibility to create patches from scratch, with multiple ways of choosing sound sources, including a categorised Sound Browser, which works hand in hand with the randomisation engine to create sounds which are "just right".
On-the-Fly Reverseable sounds
Following the success of Sequi2r's family reverseable sounds feature, Abstrung gives the option to reverse sounds on the fly and to adjust the length of each reversed sound with the mod wheel.
3 Play modes.
In Abstrung you can select whether you want to play both sound sources at once (Single map Mode), one per key zone (Dual Map Mode) or let it happen randomly (Random Map Mode), creating interesting changing textures. This both while you are in Normal Mode or Step Sequencer Mode. The keyboard zone can be defined by the user.
Unique reverb convolutions add to the picture to contribute in a creative way to the sound creation; reverbs that not only add space but define the final sound too.
Twin Step Sequencer
Abstrung features not one, but 2 step simultaneous sequencers with 8 memory slots. You can change sequence on the fly like in Sequi2r via keyswitch, but with Abstrung you'll have double the fun. Also, you can record your sequences by playing, not by drawing, pretty much like in Sequi2r, but Abstrung's process is even faster and simpler.
Add to this Permanent random generated sequences and Temporary random sequence at the tip of a "keyswitch", to spice up some stale repetitive phrases.
You can perform one sequence per sound source (Twin Seq on) in Dual Map Mode, or have both sound sound sources playing simultaneously (Single Map) both sequences.
Or you can run one sequence only (Twin Seq off) with both sound playing at once (Single Map), or one sound per define-able keyboard zone in Dual Map Mode.
Included organic sounds
Hammered Upright Piano
Acoustic Grand Piano
Plucked Grand Piano
Acoustic D-28 Steel guitar
Nylon Strings Guitar

The newest update now has MIDI drag and drop, like Sequi2r.. This greatly adds to the value.. Cause you can use any VI of your choice. I had taken MIDI drag/drop from Sequi2r and used a Kontakt string library.. I got results like Alfred Hitchcock strings on LSD.. Positive striking. and because the strings sound so real, you envision this mad violinists dancing around in the piece..
Adding the MIDI drag/drop feature is a HUGE bonus.. All the Audiofier plug-ins are quite clever programing to work in Kontakt.Read more

I like to give you some very first impressions of Abstrung the new library by (in my opinion) much underrated Audiofier:
I already have Sequi2R and the follow up Sequi2R EX (with a lot of expansions included) but skipped over the first version of their new series vesper cause "bells and whistles" just not my sounds.
Now I could not resist the new Abstrung, same concept then Vesper but with "strungs" (Abstrung ) and plucks (my sounds :D).
Took some time with nearly 20 GB download to get evrything working but then I was just overwhelmed :o .
Me, the preset addicted and NO nki-instruments, no snapshots ????
NO, you really dont need. After this I will open my pc an look for this bunch of mini composers where they have been hidden.
NO, thats NOT random, not at all. Evry click brings a new (whatever magic does that trick) well designed preset :o :o :o.
AND: you can choose a sound category from the browser for the random sound generation.
And if you do this it is far more then just a plucks and strings thing.
Choose "spacey" and in no time you have a texture, soundcape, pad, athmophere whatever you like.
Have not come further now, four other categorys waiting to be explored.....
And magic goes on. If you have the sound you like in general there are two alternative ways to go on: use the crystal engine (no, I wont try to explain, you must have a look on yourself) it just adds kind of magic to your sound or use a very polished and feature rich double step sequencer following the root note and scale you choose.
I must admit ad this point as a hobby musician with more enthusiasm then knowledge I never really managed to master Sequi2r in all its possibilities, just to much for me so I am really fine with using the presets and just playing a little bit with the sequencer on first level.
But was makes this series so outstanding is the ease of use:
- choose a soundcategory you like
- use the sound composer (no, I wont call it random cause it just isnt )
- and then add the magic with crystal or a double sequencer.
Of couse there are a bunch of special fx, I dont think I will need them much but of course they are there and as easy to use as the rest.
So I will go back to magic
Have a look at it if you like, it is really marvellous.Read more
