AGML is the lite version of AGM, recorded on the Martin D-41 acoustic guitar, Natural sustain and resonating sounds of the guitar are unadulterated.

As one of the largest free virtual instruments, AGML provides most useful features of AGM with 682MB samples to satisfy accompaniment in pop music.

1. Sampling

  • DFD (Direct from disk).
  • Controllable Resonance Sound.
  • Rich Fingering Noise - more vivid and realistic.
  • Original Total Start Time which makes the picked instrument sounds more natural.
  • Each Cycle & Rhombic Sampling structure - Separate sample cycle for each note and vel layer to improve sample utilization.

2. Technology

  • Doubling Guitars - different samples at L & R.
  • CPS (Customized Parameters Setting), any button knob etc can be controlled by MIDI CC or Automation.
  • Manual vibrato wheel designed specifically for guitars.
  • Doubling Keyswitches - combine 2 techniques via pressing 2 keyswitches at the same time.
  • Poly Repeater.
  • Open String First Function.

3. Strummer

  • 14 Strum notes + 28 playing modes for each chord.
  • Strumming Legato - both Slide and HP can be played in strummer.
  • Easy Strum Time Control via the velocity.
  • Mute Depth.
  • Customized Chords and positions on Select or Detect 2 modes.
  • Chord inversions to Positions.
  • Strum SEQ with customized rhythm.

Beats me how you managed to try it. I tried to download twice and each time took 25 minutes and all I got was a 25MB corrupted/incomplete file. I'd probably have to spend the rest of my life trying to download the 6GB full product. Shame because it looked quite good on the Youtube movies.

Yes, Ample Sound lies when they call AGML a freeware. It is not a freeware, it is a demo of AGM.

The proofs are:

  1. When you click between 0 and the 4th fret all goes well but... when you click after the fourth fret the sound is simply replaced by a message "only available in full version, click to purchase".
  2. The same when you use the keyboard after G#3. From A3 upto the end of the keyboard, no message... but no sound. The notes affected are of course the same as above.
  3. Many control keys of the GUI are disabled. Some other keys show a big popup to invite you to purchase the full version of the product (just for that point it is a proof that what we have downloaded is not a free product as they call it... but a shareware!).
  4. And there is no MIDI project possible (with the host it sends and receives only note on / note off).
  5. And at last there's no preset library. Even to try some sounds during two or three days before deciding to get the full product or not. This point also is in itself alone a whole proof that it is not a product but a demo.

So it is misleading and dishonest from Ample Sound to tell AGML a "product". It is not a product in itself... it is simply a little demo (very little demo absolutely uninteresting) of one of their real products using the same GUI ! That's all! Nothing else than simply a little and uninteresting (because insufficient) demo of one of their real products using the same GUI ! In the "price" field at the top of the KVR page, it should not be written "Free" but "Demo version of AGM".

And for jonny_g: you'd have not waited the rest of your life because AGML is not a 6 GB product but only a 650MB product. The product having the 6 GB size is not AGML but AGM.

I don't know why you have met a problem to download these 650 MB but the thing which is certain is that it's not worth the trouble to spend ONE minute on it.

If you really want free or very cheap (less thant $50) acoustic guitars with very good sounds and abilities, you should consider these:

  1. http://www.kvraudio.com/product/spicy_guitar_by_keolab (by far my prefered in the free acoustic guitars).
  2. http://www.kvraudio.com/product/revitar_2_by_cuttermusic (really good also in the free acoustic guitars).

At home, the emulation that I use every day (because I have a real electric guitar but I have no real acoustic guitar) is http://www.kvraudio.com/product/strum-acoustic-session-by-applied-acoustics-systems which is not free but cheap (only $99, €75 for europeans) in regard to its very, very great quality! Beware, it is quite hard to learn the first weeks you use it, because the possibilities are huge (and with her big sister Strum Acoustic GS-1 they are infinite)... but after this first period of initiation to Strum Acoustic Session you'll really have a blast.

Here is the operation manual of Strum Acoustic Session : http://s3.amazonaws.com/aas_manual/Manual-StrumAcousticSession.pdf (77 pages!)

To say my whole opinion... I really love ALL the products of AAS! Not only because it is a company at Montreal (Canada) created by two frenchies (as I am) but above all because all their products are really good and we are never disappointed.

But if you want to shortlist only freewares, so my opinion is that currently the best emulations of acoustic guitars are Spicy guitar (really the best one) and Revitar 2. I use both (indifferently) when I want to make quick (but very good) works, keeping Acoustic Strum Session for very complex compos. I have given all the internal links above.
