Desperately looking for free DX7 VST I was just about to create VST port of Hexter DSSI but it looks someone already did it!

v1.3 binary is available here (I put the link because no files were displayed at sourceforge download page when I browsed it, just some sources at cvs):

Hexter VSTi synth port consists of synth module plus nice fx engine - four simultaineous effects are available: tubewarmth, echo (TAP LADSPA plugins' conversion), freeverb and Fluidsynth chorus, also ported. These effects are interesting but not *so* necessary - while the synth is monotimbral You can put separate effects outside VSTi instance as well.

Hexter VSTi has own GUI. It does allow patch editing - in DSSI version it's possible thru sysex only.

The GUI isn't what You'd expect from commercial application but Hexter is opensource and all these DX7 parameters are presented quite clearly. The view of alghoritm is clear and quite helpful.

First audible impression was really nice (3 of 4 effects are enabled by default). Max poly is 64 voices. It operates on DX7 sysex streams only (seems there's no way to save fx settings within host), no LFO support yet.

So far it behaves stable (I checked it in Buzz host/Polac VSTi gear). Had one hung note when switching to other algorithm and playing at the same time.

Multiple Hexter instances can be loaded and are working with no problem (tested both with Jeskola Buzz and Tracktion 1).

Wonderful work!
