kFootsteps is a library programmed for Kontakt 4 and above aimed to aid sound editors and foley artists in their process of adding footsteps to a scene.

The user will no longer have to record, cut and synchronize footsteps (which many times is a secondary, yet very tiring thing to do) and on the contrary, with the help of a MIDI controller (or even with mouse clicks!), he'll be able to take care of the talent's steps in an extremely reduced amount of time. This way, he'll have plenty of time to take care of what's important in his project.

The Library gives the opportunity to the user to choose from a different amount of pairs of shoes over different surfaces.

As an example of combinations, the user is able to choose among pairs of shoes such as flip flops, trainers or heels over surfaces such as tiles, waste ground or carpet.

Each combination will give the user 66 different samples distributed as follows:

  • 12 samples: Walking slowly (CYAN KEYS).
  • 24 Samples: Walking normally (BLUE KEYS).
  • 12 Samples: Running (GREEN KEYS).
  • 12 Samples: General emotes (YELLOW KEYS).
  • 6 Samples: Jumping (RED KEYS).

I just wanted to "correct" some possible misconceptions about Foley. This is NOT a flame aimed at the people who created this program.

"The user will no longer have to record, cut and synchronize footsteps (which many times is a secondary, yet very tiring thing to do) and on the contrary, with the help of a MIDI controller (or even with mouse clicks!), he'll be able to take care of the talent's steps in an extremely reduced amount of time. This wordng implies that the foley is not so important and can be "replaced' with library feet. That by definition is NOT foley. Foley is custom sound effects hence no room for prerecorded steps. That is not to say there is not a place for this program, just that I believe clarification is important. If we were to take a scene done by me and done by this program, I daresay you could easily hear the difference and you would be surprised how fast I could perform it.

Thanks for your clarification.

kFootsteps is NOT for doing Foley, it is for helping Foley Artists to focus on other and probably more important details of their projects by saving them the time of having to record, cut and synchronise footsteps.

Foley can not be replaced, you're right, but sometimes due to low budget or tight deadlines, a Foley Artist has to focus on the relevant sounds of his project and footsteps might drag him down. That is the intention of this library.

I hope you enjoy it.
