INTRODUCTION Once upon a time, I had a simple little set-up that allowed me to quickly lay down tracks. There were many limitations, but I produced songs. Nowadays, I have more power than the Beatles ever dreamt of having; yet, not many songs — not many beats. My system is way too complex. By the time I get down a groove, the inspiration is often gone — goodbye! That's where Kickboxer by Darker Digital comes in. It's much more than a basic drum kit sample library; it is a fresh and fully functional step-sequencing groove machine-workstation that features high-quality TR-808 drum machine sounds, plus other analog drums and fat synth basses (300+samples). With Kickboxer, I can load up the basic patch and create beats with bass or tweak one of the 15 presets into something unique.
Sounds are alive and punchy.
Useful synth bass with piano roll.
Interface is clean and user-friendly.
Step sequencer is easy-to-use and fun to program.
Responsive sound control (drive, cutoff, resonance, etc.).
Effects (distortions, tape saturation, compressor, filters, reverb, etc.) enable excellent sonic manipulation of instruments. I especially like the tube distortion and tape saturation.
Innovative, friendly developers.
I have a feeling this is only the beginning. I look forward to future revisions and offerings. Having more kits and/or the ability to add user samples would be amazing.
SUMMARY Kickboxer is an eye pleasing and inspiring analog drum machine for Kontakt, featuring crisp and punchy TR-808 booms, dooms, and cracks! Aside from the great sound, it really helped to streamline my workflow. I'm actually creating beats, getting down grooves, and writing songs. I highly recommend Kickboxer to any eMusician, producer, film/game scorer, DJ, etc., who is looking for a super-charged 808 sound with synth bass and a slick, flexible step-sequencer. Tommy Zai gives Kickboxer two thumbs up. Thank you, Darker Digital, for creating such a cool thing! Super.
