Honestly, this is one of the worst "urban" libraries I've ever purchased, and I've used or heard quite a few. (My favorite is PlugSound PS04: Hip-hop tool kit. And no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way.) While Nu Jointz' Native Instruments Kompakt format is fine, and while I like the option of tempo variability, it's the sounds themselves that leave so much to be desired.

Many, many of the loops are super-chorused, super-processed and/or "flam-my" to the point of sounding rhythmically "confusing" and flat-out "mushy." Bank after bank, I kept listending in disbelief, wondering how this collection of less than mediocre sounds was approved for replication and distribution. Out of hundreds of loops and sounds, I found maybe 2 or 3 dozen I could actually use (mostly one-shots; hardly any of the loops sound either authentic or interesting, IMO).

Also, the documentation is sketchy, and often, some Intakt features are disabled for whatever reasons on a particular "patch."

I strongly considered attempting to return the product, but I wasn't sure they'd allow me to do so, since it's software. So I decided to just keep it, thinking I'd use some of the few useable sounds, once in a while. In particular, I figured I'd use some of the one-shots, as opposed to the loops. But honestly, I haven't called it up even once since the day I installed it. I should have made note, that day, of the patches I thought might be useful. Because now, to be honest, the thought of having to wade through them all again, just to find the ones I thought were usable, has kept me from touching it.

Skip this one and get PlugSound PS04. It's loops aren't tempo-adjustable, but they ROCK. (And I understand the guys at PlugSound have some interesting things in the works.) Or get Stylus RMX and buy hip-hip REX files from another company, to import into RMX. But trust me: *skip* Nu Jointz.

Why is such an outdated product featured here (in that green box below the search box)?
