I like this synth a lot. I use dexed fairly often too, but Oxe FM Synth is well worth having, it's pianos, EPs and chimes have a really sweet character. I haven't figured out how to edit my own patches yet, I have to rely on lots of twiddleing and luck, but this is the same for all the FM synths I have, I really should watch a few tutorials.

The GUI is a bit smaller than I'd prefer, and it feels cluttered, but some of the alternate skins address that.

Overall I consider this a must have vst, and I'm quite picky.

Thanks to Oxe Software for making this free and 64-bit.

Am I the only one to try this great (and free!!!) new synth? Ok then, let's make a start...

I downloaded the program and tried it last weekend. Given the early date and version number I have to admit that I was really impressed. This thing has potential!

The GUI is well designed and functional but could be improved. The setting knobs are sometimes hard to adjust and for some parameters they could well be replaced by switches or so.

There is nothing to complain about concerning sound quality. On my headphones the sound was clear and crisp and I did not notice any noise (above the usual noise floor of my sound card / amplifier).

The quality and versatility of the built-in presets is ok but they don't seem to cover the full variety of possibilities. Most of the patches are synthetic, few natural sounds. I am sure that there is a lot more to be wormed out of Oxe FM.

Concerning features Oxe FM is kind of basic but has all it needs for plain FM sounds. Of course, there is a lot that could be added and on his homepage the author explains what he is planning to implement in the future.

I did not find any documentation or support forum etc. so there's nothing to judge. (The author may be contacted by email though.)

My overall rating can only be a 10 since it makes a well-adjusted and mature impression and above all - it's free! I had much fun messing around with the different operator parameters and got some neat results on the spot.

I am planning to fiddle with it some more and try to convert some of the old DX-7 sounds as soon as I can find some time. In any case Oxe FM will have a steady space in my plug-in rack!

In the page http://www.oxesoft.com/, just under the example songs you have a link to download the last version. That link works, I just tested it again a minute ago.

Seems it happens very little here. I think Oxe is worthy of more attention than this, althogh I've just begun to look at it myself. It's possible to download a modified bass guitar above. To get rid of that click sound - as I remember it - I just increased the attack time. But I'm not 100 % sure I remember right. I didn't succed very well in getting the Oxe-filter or -resonance to work very well, but as far as I know it isn't forbiden to use external stuff.
