The Whale Drum (aka Tongue / Slit drum) is one of the world's oldest known instruments. Tongue drums are found around the globe in various cultures spreading from Africa, Asia to South America. This Soundiron library is a massive sample library containing over 3100 samples, with an average of 10 round robins and 10 velocity layers per note.
We primarily sampled our high-end whale drum in a dry studio environment with mallets and brushes. We sampled each note, at both center and rim positions and captured sticks and brushes on multiple surfaces over the whole drum. We also extensively sampled it naturally "wet" in a bright and open hall for an authentic tuned concert percussion sound. You'll also find plenty of special FX presets, using selections from our custom convolution impulse catalog. We did just about everything musical that we could think of with this ancient instrument, resulting in a comprehensive and broadly useful sample set.
In addition, we also sampled a smaller (baby) whale drum and a small xylophone, which both complement the larger whale drum. The library also contains an extra bonus section with delicate ambiences sculpted from original acoustic source material of the whale drums:
Native Instruments Kontakt version 3.5 or 4 full retail version of Kontakt required to use all .nki instrument program presets included in this library. The free Kontakt "Player" does not support this library.
