Waves L3 Peak Limiter
After Being sold by the demo, I plurchased the L3 set. What I needed was something to help auto-finalize songs after I had mix em. In the past I had Used The L1 with some results but always had just recieved Limiting and not multiple band Compression to tame a lound bass spectrum or too bright high spectrum that I could not mix out without hurting the mix. Got the same results with the others maximizers also. Ozone seemed like a good choice, Tried that but it seemed that it subtracted something from the mix and so I decided not to got with that. Now that the L# set is out,I happy I got it.I Havent seen any thing of my liking when it comes to a native finalizer. I like the fact that it evened out the freq spec and dymanics and made the song desirable for 2 track. I would recomend that in sound forge 7 and up...to run the Multi maximizer in an effect chain and then apply. Did not have good luck with just preview as an offline plug. Maybe they will fix that in the next vers. Other than that, it was $$ well invested. even though it was Alot.

Cakewalk SONAR
first i would like to start off and say that I have been a Cakewalk user since version 3 ...and have seen it evolve over the version and have to say that Sonar 3.1.1 is an excellant tool that (IMHO) rivals all brands out there. Even Pro TOols!! I think that it has matured as a multi-tracking Application and is capable of producing post producing quality material as long as it is complimented with the right equiment (I.E. apogee converters...neve, manley, or avalon preamps...and so on) so i think across the board, for me, it is also the most friendliest. I think that the competitors like cubase, samplitude, logic, etc. also compare relatively but is a matter of taste and past usage. so for me Sonar is my choice. for people just getting into recording Sonar also is more friendly then the others. But the fact that it implements WDM drivers which is the lowest latency protocol...also is a plus. The looping tools are excellant (acidized loop support)and streamlined making the song writing experience very smooth and transparent.
I quoted to one of my clients that is seems to disappear in the background while i am writing songs...recording...I dont feel like I have to battle with the interface. also with the new updates with 3.11 you get MIDI looping (like audio looping)for quick click tracks and/or grooves! also the support for multiple sample rates it very nice addition...and the midi note editing "as usual" is suppior to most apps out there. audio edit "offline" to my is still not my cup of tea for Sonar....only con about that app...so i went out and got Sound Forge for offline track editing and mastering.
Sonar is the way to go... |

Arturia Moog Modular V
This thing is awesome. I spent 2-days playing with this thing making presets...this thing does sound like an analog unit. it is so warm...and clear..no noise...this is another product by arturia showing there craftsman ship...honestly i didnt think it could be made to sound this good. Worth every $ i paid for it. User interface is definitly delictible...and the patching is insane...nice touch when you move across the cables and the move like you touched them...Routing options are are excellant with a visual feedback. I see that arturia has the CS-80v (i like to see if it matches up) and the minimoog when it comes out...
cons: does have a CPU load issue!! |

Man i love this thing...and its free...I was using Bismarks BS-1 (unfortunatly bought) and now i only use SFZ for my sound fonts...works flawlessy and sounds excellant. I may investigate buying the "+" version but the free impresses me so much i dont know if it can be whole much better! and i usually dont do alot of editing to sound fonts...so editing features are not a huge issue!
side note: did see an issue with DFD function the sound would seem to develop latency will in use. My be a RAM issue with the coding... |

I have not tried the new upgrade but there are some presets on this VSTi that functions better as a Clav then a guitar. there is a wah preset (dont remeber which) that is so funky to play on 'superstition' like songs....so yes i like it...i have a guitar player so...I use it like ticky clav and get killer results! |

I think this synth has a cool interface with the X,Y axis function. but the sound to me was OK-ish...so the sound was not it strong point. The included presets did not give it a good sound set to work with either. ...a little pricey compared to some freebee VSTi's out there that have more of an analogue sound... |

Novation V-Station
I gonna give this PLug the same applause as the Basstation! ...it is definitley a hardware replacement (I dont know what hardware piece it would replave thou!) but I know that i use it. The preset are nice ...the leads are very usable in a mix. Like most of novation products, it shines notably (IMHO) in recording! |

Native Instruments (NI) FM8 (was FM7)
I think this is one of my DXi (like the B4) that are 'mature'. I think this kind of software programing needs to be applauded. I use this intrument %80 percent of the time. Glassy Piano...and tons of other presets are delicious. I also like the fact that you can import DX7 patches all day long....whewww....need i say more...the FM7 rocks |

I agree ...it does sound good to me...i have used other samples and still go to EVP...would like to see an update from Emagic (unless i dont know about it)...try running thru OhmBOyz Hematohm preset #8 with a nice reverb....man can you say silky smooth...gold plated 70s...and yes i use the crap out of it in Sonar...dont get me wrong...the options are limited and it has a tick at the begining of each note (what is up with that)?

I cannot live without this thing. I use sonar and the one they recomend does not compare. For one...forcing regular audio plugings like Orange Vocoder and Akai Vocoder speaks volumes. I rate it a 10 ....if you use Sonar ...you got to buy this too...I would like to see it cheeper...but as a studio owner digitizing my investment...I think things like this are worth it! |

i had a basstation and SOLD it! ...why....because the software sounds the same as the hardware unit. even the presets sound the same. actually its clearer and of coarse its has no noise. To be honest its sounds better. So to put...the software version is an upgrade...well done novation...and the V-station is comprible |

Native Instruments (NI) B4
I have been using the B4 for a few years and have been pleased with it. However...seeing other Native products being updated (especailly Absynth) ...i would love to see this product updated... but to me the B4 is still the ultimate PLug in...and still with how old it is...still have not seen a comparison....NI ...love to see an update on 'tone wheel leakage', better chorusing on the 'leslie'...and more realistic tube distortion... |

4Front Technologies 4Front Piano Module
I think this little Piano has a nice sound. Has large potential in recording a fast thick piano sound. Its simple and i know i only have to pull this up for fast piano tracks...very utilitarian "free" plug....and i think it would rival a large percentage of OK hardware synths on the market...and the best plug available by 4 Front |
