rgc:audio Triangle II

This is perhaps the best sounding mono freeware VSTi yet. The dark, low-contrast, small print GUI causes me major eyestrain after long programming sessions. I've never been comfortable with RGC's oscillator controls. Prefer separate settings for each oscillator including range settings. Always considered built-in f/x to be a part of the sound of the instrument, so take that into consideration along with the fact that this sweet little beast is free. Thanks, RGC!

Had to write a review for this homely beast! At first I thought this was somebody's idea of a joke but since it was weird and different I spent some time with it and after connecting it to Multilens have come up with subtle sinusoidal phasing sounds that turn my head inside out. Love the GUI. Looks like a cross between a DIY effects box and a Mothers of Invention album cover. Not much apparent variation in tone colors, but play with it and see what you can find. My ratings take the price of this thing into account. Thanks, SC!

Big Tick Cheeze Machine

Owned the Hohner String Ensemble back in 1981(list price $2700 U.S.). No programmability. No f/x. Power transformer in volume pedal enclosure that constantly malfunctioned. Ribbon cable connector cable between pedal and keyboard that constantly needed difficult and expensive repair. Am I happy? YES! Thanks,Big Tick!

Reminds me of the Roland Juno-60 I paid $2600 Cdn. for in 1982 except without the beautiful built-in two preset chorus effect. Put Big Tick's Hexaline and Dual Delay f/x in series behind it and it almost sounds like a composite Juno. The simplicity of programming makes this a great foot-wetter not only for synth novices but also for hardware synth programming virtuosos who find themselves back at square one learning the virtual equivalent. Actually useable freeware is a work of love, and I can only show my appreciation by spending time on it and programming my own sounds into it to justify the developer's hard work and faith. I can't guarantee that this will convince me to buy JX-Synth, but it has already convinced me to download and try out the demo. Thanks again for fixing the W98 problem in 1/2 hour on version 1.1 last Saturday. Most commercial programs don't offer that kind of customer service response. Thanks, John@JXPlugins!
